Data Breaches Hit Half of America

Almost half of all American consumers (45%) said data security breaches havecompromised their personal payment information or that of a household member. Three years of data covered in the report by Verizon, included the results for Fortune 500 and large multinational firms in more than 30 countries.Verizon researchers found that 80% of all firms studied failed their complianceassessments.  "Today's cybersecurity landscape is constantly changing," said RodolpheSimonetti, managing director, professional services for Verizon EnterpriseSolutions. "Compliance at a point in time isn't sufficient to protect data. Putting thefocus on making compliance sustainable is key. It must be a part of day­to­dayactivities within an organization's greater security strategy."

 "Data protection is not just about using encryption, firewalls and antivirus," Verizonwrote in the report. "It's about ongoing scoping, configuration maintenance, identitymanagement, logging, monitoring, scanning and testing. Security is something youdo, not something you have. The low results of testing security systems show thatmany organizations still don't recognize this."  Please click to read more

What To Do If Your Child's Identity Is Stolen

There are several signs that can tip you off to the fact that someone is misusingyour child's personal information. You may be turned down for governmentbenefits, receive collection calls for products or services you or your child did notorder and possibly a notice from the IRS saying the child did not pay income taxes. Start by checking for a credit report and keep record of all communication. To repair the damage, put out a fraud alert immediately with the 3 nationwide creditreporting companies. Contact the business where the child's information wasmisused. Consider requesting a credit freeze, order and review the child's creditreport. There are other ways to help repair the damage click the link below to read more.
