Agriculture and Food Security students are the

protectors of the world’s plant-based food supply.

This major prepares students to manage plant

pests and diseases from a holistic perspective.

AGRICULTURE &AFS

Students learn the complexity of relationships

within agricultural ecosystems, how external

factors influence these systems, and how to

effectively manage pests and diseases without

incurring undue risks to human or environmental

health. Courses begin with a strong scientific

base in biology and chemistry, and expand to

focus on crop science, soil science, integrated pest

management, and plant pathology.

The Agricultural & Food Systems degree program focuses on vital aspects of the global food system ranging from plant and animal production to marketing and education. You will learn the business and science of feeding the world by becoming a skilled communicator, critical thinker, and leader for the agricultural industry.

Matt PaulOperations Manager, Congdon Orchards

“Thanks to CAHNRS, I am able evaluate the chemistry of pesticides, assess soil nutrient interaction, and understand the physiology of a tree. As a student I learned quickly how to meet deadlines, set priorities, and deliver quality work. The knowledge and skills I developed through my major have enhanced my ability to be successful as a working professional.”

Wyatt KollerSales Representative, Wilbur Ellis

“I was most impressed with the diversity within CAHNRS and in my major. My peers came from all kinds of backgrounds and provided a variety of perspectives on agricultural topics. The range of opinions opened my eyes and challenged me to think differently about hot topic issues in the industry.”

Whitney HubbleReview Program Specialist, Organic Materials Review Institute

“My major helped prepare me for the many diverse practices in agriculture across the world. It also helped me understand the many rules and regulations that make up organic agricultural practices and just how important it can be for the environment.”
