UK Parelli Celebration: Exciting News!

August 9-10 2008, NEC Arena, Birmingham. We are offering a great opportunity to be part of the Parelli Team during the UK Celebration! Don't miss it!

We had many inquiries in the past from students willing to translate products and events... we listened and here is the opportunity!

We are looking for interpreters to translate Pat and Linda during the UK event. If you are a veryconfident simultaneous interpreter from English to either French, German or Italian, have a good knowledge of the Parelli Program and you are interested to be part of the Parelli Team for this great event, let us know by e-mailing us at: [email protected].

Hurry! Applications close on the31st of May.

QUESTIONYou have provided us with lots of information and instruction about pads and shims, which has been most helpful. I have a new three yr old TB/QH gelding who is still filling out and building muscle. He was very lean when I purchase him four months ago and has since put on almost 100 lbs. When the vet checked him the first time, I was advised to get my new saddle with wide gullet, because he had plenty of growing to do. I am using Theraflex pad, currently with 2 1/2 inch shims front, 1/4 inch shim middle, and 1 1/2 shim at back. I have not found any "dry spots" after riding, so I am assuming my shim placement is correct. What signs would tell me it is time to use less shimming? -LD

ANSWERIt sounds like you are doing great! I love to hear things like this, welldone. If your shims were not right your saddle will not look balancedfrom front to back (level or very slightly up in front), the saddle would feel tight over the shoulders or dig into him in the loins, and you might have dry spots. From a movement perspective, your horsemight feel more heavy on the forehand or choppy in his stride, carry his head too high and contract his back and hollow out some! When ahorse has no muscle you might find that as he grows muscle you can use less shim. And not to confuse you, but from a performance /collection perspective, sometimes the more shim you use the better they are! For example, I can have Remmer comfortable with one thickshim in the front, but when I do two he lifts his front end way more.So when your young horse is ready for collection, around Level 3, youmight want to experiment with how shims can add a performance edge for you.
