You’ve come to the Historic City of St. Augustine at the perfect time! With the city preparing to celebrate its 450th birthday next year (wow!), our “historic core” has recently undergone a renovation decades in the making! Hypolita, Spanish, and Treasury Streets have been repaved with genuine clay bricks and the curbs and sidewalks (now ADA compliant) from coquina concrete (just like the old days) to preserve the authentic history of St. Augustine and its origins. New colonial-style streetlights make an evening stroll a joy and they even use energy-ecient LED light!
New palm trees were planted to line Hypolita and Spanish streets to provide some shade on those warmer days. And now when you spend your day in this historic district, you’ll nd plenty of bike racks, benches, and recycling bins. Don’t forget about all the improvements you can’t see – signicant work was done on the underground utility infrastructure to make sure our beautiful city can thrive for another 450 years!
Visit our historic downtown and see the improvements for yourself – the neighbor-hood cafés, sweet shops, galleries, and eateries are excited to welcome you. Let history surround you as you shop and stroll your day away!
Thank you for visiting and joining our city’s history books! The beautiful Historic City of St. Augustine will be holding several events to celebrate its 450th birthday, so stay tuned and don’t miss a thing! Check our calendar on pages 26 & 27 and our website for the most up-to-date information.

Everything tastes better when you are on vacation and away from home. Strolling through the Old City, or playing in the sun can build up an appetite. Not to worry, because dining out is another great part of being here.
Whether it’s a café or waterfront restaurant; no matter if you have a romantic candlelit dinner or quick bite at a tiki bar with friends, your dining experience in St. Augustine will be truly memorable. For a city of its size, St. Augustine offers unusually delicious fare, a combination of available fresh ingredients and the freestyle imagination of accomplished chefs.
Two new establishments are guaranteed to please the family. Across from the beach is the Salt Life Food Shack, an all restaurant. Enjoy their variety of fresh menu
choices and a fun thing not to miss is seeing is their fish tank that was built and featured on the TANKED TV show. On Anastasia Island, just over the Bridge of Lions, is Mellow Mushroom, now offering Gluten Free dough. Create your own pizza with a variety of Gluten Free ingredients.
You decide! Dine indoors or out, to be casual or formal, or to grab a burger or a local grilled fish platter prepared to perfection, the choices are yours!
The dress code includes the casual to the elegant and everything in between, with the majority of dining establishments offering more informal ‘come as you are’ attire.
