Whilst the Summer has ended September brings us a fresh slate of new releases to get excited about. Whether you’re going back to Uni and need some new records for your digs, or simply want to find out about the best releases hitting the racks over the next few weeks, we’ve got you covered. In fact, Mark at Level Crossing Records has pulled out some records he’s particularly looking forward to hearing this month. Enjoy! Moon Duo - Stars Are The Light I am a massive fan of Sacred Bones as a record label and massive fan of Moon Duo. This is their 7th album so if you haven't listened to them before, you've got a lot of catching up to do. Released: 27th September - Format: Opaque Red Vinyl. Brittany Howard - Jaime I mean what a voice... This will be Brittany's first solo album outside of the Alabama Shakes and I'm really excited for it. I've only heard the 2 singles she's released but I think this is gonna be a big record this year. Released: 20th September - Format: Sandstone LP Gruff Rhys - Pang! I am so excited about this one... I've always been into anything this guy puts out because there's nobody else making music like Gruff. Released: 13th September - Format: Green Coloured Vinyl

In conversation with owner Mark Buckle

Give us the background... when and why did you decide to open your store Level Crossing Records? We decided to open a record store around 3 years ago…I have always been a collector, played in various bands so the dream to open my own store has always been there. We live 10 minutes from the shop in East Sheen, South West London. The store's regulars have become an extended family to us. They are the reason we get up in the morning and the best thing about owning a record store.

Tell us a bit about your store, what's the vibe?

Our store is much more like a bar than a record store. People hang out all day talking about music and listening to vinyl whilst having a coffee. It's a real community. We don’t focus on any specific genres and we pride ourself on being eclectic. Our staff members regularly play live sets in-store and our customers often DJ. Probably the best story so far in the shop was Anna Calvi coming in to buy her LP on release day and me not realising who she was...

Can you remember the first record you sold in the shop? And the last? The first record we sold in the shop was Bobby Womack - 'The Bravest Man in the Universe' and the last record was Van Morrison - 'Moondance'.

Do you remember the first record shop you went in to? And do you remember the first record you bought? The first record store I went to was on Portobello Road. I am unsure of what it was called but I remember buying a single that said Great Little Groover in marker pen and I was sold. Personal memories of record stores when I was a kid was everyone that worked in them was as mad as a hatter but I kinda liked it. I dare say we have kids that come in here now that think the same about me.

What is your favourite record shop (apart from your own!) and why? My favourite record store apart from my own is Sounds of the Universe. It literally is heaven on earth.

What's your most memorable record store experience? My most memorable record store experience was queueing up for Record Store Day a few years ago in Soho and thinking this will be us next year...and it was.

AND SOME ONE-LINERS TO GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER... What's the best gig you've ever been to? BRMC - Somerset House What's your all-time favourite book? Wonderland Avenue - Danny Sugarman

What's your all-time favourite film? I will have to say Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as it’s fresh in my memory and I loved it.

What would make up your desert island discs? Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones White Stripes - Elephant Nuggets - Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic ERA Allah-Las - Allah-Las Curtis Mayfield - Curtis Miles Davis - Kind of Blue BRMC - BRMC - The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

Who would form your all-time Festival line-up? (past & present) The Doors, James Brown, Joy Division, Dusty Springfield, Unkle, Flaming Lips, 13th Floor Elevators, Lykke Li, Curtis Harding and Growlers.

What's your all-time favourite record? Tighten Up Volume 2 - this is the record that started everything.

Remember 1) Everything in the newsletter was correct at the time it was sent. But sometimes things can

change, so double check with your record shop for updates on the releases. 2) Not all shops will have the same titles in. We'd recommend checking in with your local shop in advance to see if they've got the release you're after in stock. They might be able to order it in for

you, or you may find it in another shop using the store locator above!
