FEBRUARY 2015

Chocolate Making 101Tuesday, February 10th

Our own Club Manager Ken Richardson comes from a family of chocolatiers dating back to 1908. Having spent weekends and holidays making and dipping chocolates, who better to lead the class into making a box of chocolates just in time for Valentine’s Day? Join us for a fun evening as Ken walks us through the history of chocolate making, up to and in-

cluding each participant learning how to make and dip hand-made chocolates. Each par-ticipant will leave with a one-pound heart shaped box of sweets just for your sweetheart.

Class begins at 6:30pm (Don’t be late!)$20.00 per person; please register by calling 512-477-9496.

Nespresso . . .Not Expresso! You’re reading it correctly: recently, as part of our ongoing beverage program, the Austin Club became the first commercial location in the State of Texas to introduce Nespresso, premium coffee of choice, 18 years in the making. Our own baristas, Jaime and Mike, will be more than pleased to make you that early morning espresso or the late evening latte. Check out our new beverage menu featuring coffee beverages created just for you and your guests.

Over 30% of the 2,400 Michelin star rated restaurants now offer Nespresso coffee, while some of New York’s finest restaurants, Nobu 57, Marc Forgione, along with Brassierie 8 1/2, now offer Nespresso. Nestle spent over $85 million developing the process and product, with only 1-2% of all coffee grown meeting their high standards.

So stop by and enjoy one of Jaime or Mike’s creations, located in Roy’s Place (First Floor Bar).

Mardi Gras 2014Tuesday, February 17th

Come join the festivities as the Austin Club celebrates Mardi Gras on Tuesday, February 17th. Roy’s Place will be THE place where all the action will be! The chef will be featuring Gumbo, Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole, Crawfish Auto-da-fe, Red Beans & Rice, & Beignets. That’s right, our own kitchen

Garde Manger Blake Chisholm & mixologist Jaime Denton, both hailing from New Orleans, will be put-ting out an authentic New Orleans spread just for you and your guests.

Come join us for the festivities (including live music), all starting at 5:30pm. $19.50 per person.

FEBRUARY 2015

Your Capital Fund Dollars at WorkWow! If you haven’t seen the second floor Medallion Room you are in for a big surprise. Recently, the Ballroom received a new paint scheme, new carpeting and new cur-tains and sheers. Throughout 2014, additional items pur-chased or repaired from the fund included new air condi-tioning units, a new ice machine, office equipment, kitchen equipment, a new phone system, china, and the list goes on. Overall, through the end of the year, over $63,000 of your capital improvement funds have been used towards capital purchases, repairs or replacement of equipment.

Valet ParkingYour membership dollars at work

Due to the loss of on-street parking spaces and the adjacent parking garage being full by noontime, action was taken to provide you and your guests another level

of service. Personal valet service is now being offered weekdays (Monday through Friday) from 11:30am - 2:30pm. Your monthly dues are being used to subsidize the $6.00 per car fee. We hope you’ll take advantage of this new service. Based on a six month trial period, the usage will be reviewed to determine if continued service justifies the costs.

In addition to the new valet parking, your monthly dues are also used to lease the adjacent parking ga-rage in the evening, with complimentary parking offered beginning at 4:30pm daily, Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays and Sundays for special events. Take advantage of these two great member services funded with the Club’s dues.

Sunday Gospel BrunchSunday, February 22nd, 12:00pm - 1:30pm

Our culinary team will be featuring traditional items, from King Ranch Chick-en to Honey Cured Ham to Chicken & Dumplings and our famous slow-roast-ed Prime Rib, served with a bountiful salad selection & fabulous dessert table.

Sit back & relax, or spiff up those dancing shoes as The Sieker Band plays your favorite gospel tunes for your listening & dancing pleasure (www.siekerband.com). Join us before or after church & be a part of our Gospel Sunday Brunch.

Adults: $24.95; Children 6-12: $10.95; 5 & Under ComplimentaryPlease call 512-477-9496 for reservations.

Happy Holidays,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members a Happy New Year for 2015! Please join us for dinner and the new exciting dinner menu inspired by our Executive Chef Mike Maples and his Sous Chef Mike Large, to be the best dining experience Austin has to offer.

Wines of the Season:

Novellum Chardonnay, Pays d’Oc, France: This French Chardonnay is crisp, no oak. A crowd pleaser. Quite aromatic for a Chardonnay: lemon, white blossom and herbs with slight buttery notes on the nose. Medium bodied with a crisp acidity and a fresh lemony finish. Exotic and perfumed, with am-ple white peach, crème, brioche and subtle nuttiness, it flows onto the palate with a medium to full-bodied, layered and beautifully detailed texture that shows bright acidity and fantastic purity of fruit.

Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon, Modesto, California: Big and bold in style, Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep, inky color that alludes to its rich dark fruit layers. Notes of espresso, toasted oak and chocolate give the sturdy mid-palate an edgy undertone. A plush, velvety mouth feel creates a refined smoothness that leads the way to a long, silky finish. This wine is simply delicious. It’s rich and creamy on the tongue and finishes with a smoky aftertaste. It’s a decadent wine for slow sipping, 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, 10% Merlot.

Please join us for dinner and take advantage of the best value in dining in Austin at your Club.

Joseph Jafarian Evening Manager
