CHILDREN’S DISMISSAL People: May the Lord be with you. Children: And also with you. People: May the Word of the Lord grow in your hearts. Children: Thanks be to God! People: Go in the peace of the Lord.

At this time, children 4k-2nd grade are invited to go to Kids Time. Kids Time is a dynamic worship service that caters to younger children and prepares them to participate in the main worship service. The children will return prior to Communion.

Scripture Reading

1 Chronicles 29:10-14 (pg. 343) Leader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

THE APOSTLES CREED (said together) I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church*, the Communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. * The phrase “holy catholic Church” in the Creed means the Church worldwide.

PRAYERS OF GOD’S PEOPLE Heavenly Father, we humbly ask you to hear the prayers of your people: For Church of the Apostles, for our sister church, Redeemer Anglican, and for the Gikomero Church in Rwanda, that we would use the money, time and spiritual gifts you provide to advance the work of your kingdom. Make us faithful stewards of all that you provide. We pray for our local mission partners throughout the city of Raleigh; Use their efforts to bring the salvation and hope of Christ to the poor, the broken and the disheartened in our city. Lord, the eyes of all look to you, and you meet our needs at the proper time; Give us godly wisdom and trust in you to meet our needs as you know what is best for us. Lord, you are near to all who call on you. Hear us now as we offer our needs to you. (You are invited to add your own intercessions silently or aloud.) Almighty and eternal God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully accept the prayers of your people, and strengthen us to do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Leader: Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God: CONFESSION OF SIN (said together) Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against your holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. O Lord, have mer-cy upon us, spare those who confess their faults, restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; that we may live godly, righteous, and sober lives, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

—The absolution of sin is to be pronounced by a priest who symbolically stands in the authority of God to forgive the sins of those who truly repent (Matthew 16:19, John 20:23). Leader: Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR THOSE NOT TAKING HOLY COMMUNION The Church of The Apostles welcomes all Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, to receive Holy Communion with us by coming forward to one of the communion stations at the front. If you are not able to receive Communion, please use this time to meditate on one of the following prayers. Prayer for Those Searching for Truth. Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing and that leads to the life you promise. Thank you. Prayer of Belief. Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Please come into my life through the power of your Holy Spirit. Thank you.

COMMUNION SONGS (Please join in singing during communion.) A prayer team is available to pray with you at the back of the worship area.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING (said together) Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Winter/Spring 2017 Adult Sunday School Classes

Faith of Our Father – Learning About God From His Call To Abraham Led by Frank Bartolini & Eric Oltman Room 205

Abraham’s call may seem far removed from your own, yet there’s much we can learn from it. During our time together we’ll explore Genesis 12-25, seeing the beautiful tapestry of redemptive history woven in the life of a man called to glorify God and bless others. Spoiler alert: expect a few ups and downs along the way!

Three Letters, One Gospel Led by Gary Greene Room 203

We will dive into Philippians, Colossians and James together, which will involve your own reading and prep during the week in advance of Sunday. The beauty of this is that we’ll cover a lot of New Testament ground over a short period of time, and we’ll get to see recurring kingdom themes that surface in God’s word.

Christian Spiritual Formation and Soul Care Room 201 Led by Mary Vandel Young, Frank Shell, Amy Elder, Mary Zimmerman

Through Ruth Haley Barton’s book, Sacred Rhythms, John Ortberg’s book Soul Keeping, as well as JourneyMates™ resources, this class will guide us into classic prayer practices and disciplines that God may use to nourish and transform our life in him. We’ll learn and practice disciplines of Silence, Lectio Divina, Listening Prayer, Examen, and Fasting.

The Blood of Saints – The Lives of Christian Martyrs Led by Eric Bolash Room 204

Being a Christian has not always guaranteed a safe life. We will look each week at the lives of men and women who gave up their lives as people of faith, and seek to learn from their discipleship.
