Honda has always worked proactively to provide indepen-
dence to its local operations throughout the world. All
Honda affiliates strive to contribute appropriately to the so-
cieties with which they coexist. Around the world, Honda is
working to find new and better ways to share joy with mem-
bers of their local communities, implementing philanthropic
initiatives that suit local conditions. The following is a brief
overview of our global activities.

Contributing their own personal time, associates form teams and work to help
preserve the environments of local parks and seashores, provide food and cook
for those needing assistance, support participants in Special Olympics, lead learn-
ing programs, and lend a hand in their local communities in many other w ays.
●Community Action Teams
Founded in 1969, the National Youth Project Using Mini-Bikes (NYPUM) is an in-
tervention program for at-risk youth between the ages of 10 and 16. It rewards
children for their educational and behavioral achievements with the opportunity
to ride Honda mini-bikes.

The Company adds financial contributions to the donations made by individual
associates to the United Way in support of the United Way’s efforts to assist
agencies that provide health and human services to those in need.

Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC
In support of Honda’s initiatives among its companies in North America, the Honda North
America Philanthropy Committee provides guidelines and facilitates information exchange.
In support of the Toronto Marathon, Honda sponsors the Honda Relay, an initia-
tive designed to raise pledges in support of cancer research at the Princess Mar-
garet Hospital Foundation.

Joining hands with the ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, Honda Canada is the
founding sponsor of Family Literacy Day. Every year, on January 27, families and
communities across Canada celebrate this special day, a key part of an initiative
that promotes the importance of reading and learning together as a family.

In a system that matches funds to volunteer work, for each 50 hours of work that
current and retired associates and their spouses contribute to the projects of an
NPO, the company donates 200 dollars to that organization.

In a project coordinated by the local government, Moto Honda da Amazonia,
together with ten of its partner companies, supported a restaurant in Manaus
that provides highly nutritious, affordable meals to low-income citizens. For 1
Brazilian real, customers can purchase a 1,400-kcal lunch. The restaurant serves
500 meals per day, Monday through Friday.
●Food for Citizens Project
Honda teamed up with local broadcasters to carry out environmental education
targeting people who live near small rivers and streams. Built around a theme
of “One small seed for the future,” the project involved river clean-up along
with workshops on newspaper crafts, art, how to make mini-sofas from plastic
drink bottles, and other activities designed to promote a direct appreciation of
the value of recycling.
●Clean Consciousness Project
In cooperation with the Manaus city government, Honda participated in a
campaign under the banner, “Now is the time to make Manaus green! Let’s all
plant more trees in Manaus.” Two hundred rosaceae seedlings were donated
to the city of Manaus. Seedlings were distributed to area residents and people
on the street to promote greater awareness of afforestation activities.

One of the reasons for the large number of deaths due to accidents and disease
in Africa is that healthcare workers lack the means of transportation to get
where they need to go in a timely fashion. Riders for Health is an NPO that
provides medical support in the South African region by taking advantage of
the outstanding mobility and cost-performance of motorcycles. To show Honda’s
support for the idea, the Honda Racing Corporation European Office acts as
liaison for the donation of 25 bikes per year. Seventy-five have been donated
over the past three years.

Malaysia’s Sumatran rhinoceros is on the brink of extinction, and Honda is
working with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia to help save it by imple-
menting a five-year project called Rhino Rescue. This project not only protects
the endangered Sumatran rhinoceros, but also works via a variety of activities
by Honda Malaysia and WWF Malaysia to raise awareness among children in
particular and Malaysians in general about environmental conservation issues.

As part of Honda’s children’s education support activities, Sundiro Honda
associates collected 5,047 books and 222 stationery sets, then donated them to
Sundiro Honda Aspire Elementary Schools in Gansu Province. These educational
facilities for impoverished children were built through donations from Sundiro
Honda.

Around 300,000 driving safety manuals were distributed to users of Honda
products to help promote awareness of safe driving practices.

As part of Honda’s children’s education support activities, Wuyang Honda invited
150 children from a local elementary school to tour its plant. Associates showed
the children how motorcycles are made and answered their questions.
