    9or the poorest developing countries in the &orld$ the ban=sassistance plans are based on poverty reduction strategies; bycombining a crossDsection o8 local groups &ith an etensive analysis

    o8 the countrys nancial and economic situation the "orld ,an=develops a strategy pertaining uni#uely to the country in #uestion! The government then identies the countrys priorities and targets 8orthe reduction o8 poverty$ and the "orld ,an= aligns its aid e

    recognition o8 the economic potential o8 these countries on the globalstage!

    Current demographic and economic trends and pro7ections up to2H'* D 9As Hth birthday D indicate the 8ollo&ing global contet:

    +opulation! 9rom the present gure o8 J billion$ the &orldspopulation is li=ely to reach !2 billion in 2H'*$ having gro&nby * million people annually! 3inety percent o8 the increase&ill occur in todays developing countries!
