Fall 2013

Dear <First Name>,

We embark on our 125th year of educating design professionals during a great time of opportunity for the

Boston Architectural College. The College is graduating the largest-ever classes, with over 85% employed in the

design professions upon graduation. These graduates, who assume leadership roles in design firms and public

agencies around the world, are consistently cited as being among the most prepared for the design challenges

of the 21st century.

Our programs have earned high national rankings and our commitment to providing pro bono service to

underserved communities is unwavering. Our globally diverse student body and faculty of practicing designers

are linking sustainability to historic preservation, landscape and environmental design to human centered

design, and new technologies to proven forms of project management. The pace of change at the BAC will

never be this slow again, and we have remained a learning environment that is agile, flexible, and committed to

excellence in design education.

Your philanthropic partnership is critical. Our low student tuition only provides a portion of the funds needed

to operate the BAC in the 21st century and by partnering with me through making a gift to the College, you

will help ensure a strong path for our innovative future. I ask you to make a gift to the Boston Architectural

College today. The BAC Fund, our annual fund, provides immediate support to the College’s most pressing

needs for our students, faculty, academic programs, and technological advancements throughout our campus.

This is a time not only to reflect on our rich history and celebrated accomplishments, but an opportunity to

insure the ongoing success and strategic direction of the Boston Architectural College, as the leading practice-

based professional design college in the country. Your partnership in our future collective success is essential.

Your gift signifies your commitment to our mission and partnership of our ongoing efforts as we venture

toward the next 125 years of educating design professionals. Thank you for your consideration.

With appreciation,

Theodore C. Landsmark, M.Env.D., J.D., D.F.A. (Hon.), Ph.D.

farce is the one type of drama whose exclusive purpose is to make us laugh. audiences revel in it, yet it gets little respect or attention from the critics, who often classify it as “low comedy.” a few, more astute, see it as the most intense, the quintessential theatre, vying with tragedy in expressing the extremeties of the human condition. this lecture will explore how farce makes us laugh and why it works so successfully.
