Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen's second solo exhibition in KANT consists of two series, spread over the gallery's two rooms, one with the exhibition's title, the other with the title “Strøget 1973”. WILD CHILD is an energy discharge, an excess of vitality and courage, painted on canvases with powerful colors such as lemon yellow, pink, orange and not least gold and silver. Schmidt-Rasmussen says himself: “For the last few months I have been painting like an obsessive. I have been completely engulfed in searching for something I did not have a clear idea of what was. ” The works are figurative with people in motion. Several of the figures are painted up by a multitude of connected colorful doodles. In other works the characters appear more distinct, and in still others the narrative is covered in a kind of milky soap bubbles. As art critic Maria Kjær Themsen writes about Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen in her book "BERØRT - About Danish art in the New Millennium" from 2020 : “…… but Schmidt-Rasmussen is a painter, who often changes technique and experiments with new methods ……. - This connects several traditions and techniques - from the cubism of the early avant-garde to the abstraction of modernism ” "Basically, the starting point before I started painting for this exhibition, was an intense joy over a certain weightlessness," says Schmidt-Rasmussen. He describes a feeling of being in more or less free fall. The middle-aged person's increasing weightlessness coupled with a melancholy over an increasing bodily decay. But also a euphoria over the experience, and a realization that things have taken a form that is difficult to change. The works also originate from a feeling of being an incomprehensible spectator of something modern, which you don´t know what is; an alienation. "Basically, you can not understand, what you are in the middle of, but you always have a feeling, that someone else can, and that you are not invited to the party", as he puts it. Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen was born in 1963 in Copenhagen and is represented at e.g. Statens Museum for Kunst, Kastrupgaard and Sammlung Essl in Vienna. In 2020, he completed a 500 m2 public commission for Mozartplads Metro in Sydhavn.
