3 easy steps to selecta Sentron Panelboard

S1, S2 and SE and Lighting Panelboards:

Step 1 – Determine voltage, system, amperage and interrupting rating of branch devices, and modificationsif any. example for standard lighting panelboardAmperage 250AVoltage 208Y/1120System 3x4WMain Main LugBranches 10K AIR, 42-20/1Modifications NoneFeed Location TopMounting Surface

Step 2 – Open flap and create catalog number by followingPanelboard Coding System. The BL branch breakers were select-ed from the Branch Breaker Selection table on page 10.

1-S1C42ML250ATS42-20/1 BL

Step 3 – Select enclosure size by the number of circuits asshown in the Panelboard Dimensional chart on page 14.

1-S1C42ML250ATS42-20 BLBox size – 44” high

A unique feature of the S1/S2/SE panels is that they can accommodate either feed-thru lugs or one sub-feed circuit breaker (up to 600A) without any addition in box height. For ourexample changing the branch circuits to 39-20/1 and 1-125/3, we have the following:

1-S1C42ML250ATS39-20/1 BL1-125/3 QJ2Box size – 44” high

The QJ2 subfeed was selected from the table of Subfeed Breakers on page 10. The box height remains the same.

S4, S5, F1 and F2 Power Panelboards:

Step 1 – Same as step 1 above

Step 2 – The branch breaker frames in addition to the mounting height requirements were chosen from the BranchBreaker Selection table on page 22.(Frame) (Mounting Height)6-125/3 QJ2 5” = 15”2-225/3 QJ2 5” = 5”1-250/3 FXD6 5” = 5”

nThe end product of an outstanding ancestry, our new family ofSentron Panelboards represents the high level of engineeringinnovation our customers have come to expect from Siemens. We’ve added additional strength to an already rugged and durablepanelboard design. At the same time, we’ve trimmed the exteriorsize of many models, adding flexibility, taking up less space andmaking them easier to install. These new designs also simplifywiring and reduces material requirements, saving additionalinstallation time.

Sub-feed Lugs (Double Lugs)

Sub-feed lugs are mounted directly beside the main incominglugs and are used to connect two or more panelboards to the incoming feeder. The feeder cables are brought intoPanelboard 1 and connected to the main lugs. Another set ofcables that are the same size are connected to the sub-feedlugs of Panelboard 1 and are carried over to the main lugs ofPanelboard 2.

Bussing Sequence

Sentron interiors are designed to accommodate top or bottom feed. Regardless of which is specified, the uppermost pole is always on “A” phase; the second poledown is always on “B” phase, and the third pole down isalways on “C” phase.

As standard, branch breakers shall be mounted at the top of the panel with “spaces” at the bottom, regardless of thedirection panel is fed.

All breakers have bolted connections except plug-in type. The high-impact main bus supports provide bracing up to200,000A IR UL short circuit rating. Case-hardened, thread-forming screws are used on branch bus.

Feed-thru Lugs

Feed-thru lugs are mounted at the opposite end of the mainbus from the main lugs or main breaker and are used to connect two or more panelboards to the incoming feeder. The feeder cables are brought into Panelboard 1 and connected to the main lugs or main breaker. Cables interconnecting the two panelboards are connected to thefeed-thru lugs in Panelboard 1 and are carried over to themain lugs in panelboard 2. This arrangement could bereversed with the main lugs located at the top and the feed-thru lugs at the bottom end of the panel.

Lug Data, Space Required for Mounting of Double Panels

Use two or more panelboards with feed-thru or sub-feed lugswhen:1. Lighting and appliance panelboards are required withmore than 42 circuits.2. More circuit mounting space is required than is providedin the largest box size.

Panelboard Ratings

Sentron Panelboard Ratings

Class CTL PanelboardsClass CTL panelboards incorporate physical features which in conjunction with the physical size, configuration, or othermeans provided in Class CTL circuit breakers, are designed to prevent the installation of more overcurrent protective poles than that number for which the device is designated and rated. Per UL 67.

Service Entrance EquipmentWhen a panelboard is used as service entrance equipment, it must be located near the point of entrance of building supply conductors.

In a panel having main lugs only, the number of breakers or switches directly connected to the main bus must be limited to six.

In a panel having a main breaker or main switch, the number of circuits are not limited except as may be provided under other panelboard requirements, i.e. lighting and appliance branch circuit panelboards.

Also panel must include a connector for bonding and grounding neutral conductor.

Panelboard Code Data42-Circuit Rule: NEC Paragraph 384-14 defines a lighting and appliance branch circuit panelboard as one having more than 10 percent of its overcurrent devices rated 30 amperes or less, for which neutral connectors are provided. NEC paragraph 384-15 states not more than 42 overcurrent devices (other than those provided for in the mains)of a lighting and appliance branch-circuit panelboard shall be installed in any one cabinet. For the purpose of this article a two-pole circuit breaker shall be considered two overcurrentdevices; a three-pole circuit breaker shall be considered threeovercurrent devices. (NEC 384-14 and -15 do not apply to panelboards feeding communication circuits. Panelboards for this application must be so marked.)

Integrated EquipmentShort Circuit RatingThe term “Integrated Equipment Short Circuit Rating” refers to the application of series connected circuit breakers in a combination that allows some breakers to have lower individual interrupting ratings than the available fault current. This is permitted as long as the series combination has been tested and certified by UL. Consult Siemens sales office.
