SEMINAR ON VOICE OVER
WIRELESS LAN
MARODE DNYANESHWAR D. B.E.(E&C)
Wireless LAN Voice over WLAN Working Application Advantages Challenges Summary
OUTLINE
WIRELESS LAN
INTERNET CONNECTION BASED ON WLAN
Wireless LANs (WLANs) are LANs that use RF
instead of cable or optical fiber. Allows high-speed data transfer without wires
or cables. Supports typical enterprise applications (e-
mail, file transfer, audio/video conferencing, & so on).
Has the great advantage of roaming.
Wireless LAN
All components that can connect into a wireless
medium in a network are referred to as stations. All stations are equipped with wireless network
interface cards(WNICs). Wireless stations fall into one of two categories:
access points (APs), and clients. APs are base stations for the wireless network. Clients can be Laptops, IP-phones, desktops
enabled with wireless network interface.
Important terms related to WLAN
Uses radio or infrared or microwave transmission for
communication without cables. For communication any of these three technology is
used.1. Frequency Hoping Spread Spectrum (FHSS).2. Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS).3. Infrared (IR).
TECHNOLOGY USED IN WLAN
Wireless LAN Topologies
Star configuration using wireless distribution system
Chain configuration using Wireless Distribution System
Ring configuration using wireless distribution system
Integrates two technologies IP telephony &
WLAN. Application related to high quality voice &
data communication. Provides the liberty to roam in the local area
without loosing the connectivity. Saves in-building cell phone usage fees by
integrating VOWLAN on existing LAN.
VOICE OVER WIRELESS LAN
• WLAN handsets are connected to WLAN through
AP(Access Points) as Wireless Interface Network devices are connected.
• WLAN handsets are integrated to IP Telephony call server to provide high quality voice and data communication.
CONNECTION DETAILS
WLAN at Different Places
In the organization the mobile device accesses VoIP server and e.g. Lotus Same time , Microsoft RTC Server.
On the road VoIP and other real time communications is handled by mobile networks. 3G r5 and r6 have native VoIP.
At home the mobile device uses via WLAN local or enterprise VoIP service, Skype.

APPLICATIONS
• Need latest Technology• Well trained workers• Complications
CHALLENGES
Office mobility, Quick installation, Cost effective alternative, Minimal infrastructure costs, Promising solutions to challenges.
Advantages
Organizations are moving rapidly to adopt VoWLAN solutions to enhance business communication and boost employee productivity while leveraging their existing investment in WLAN and VoIP infrastructures.
To ensure that those moves are successful, businesses require solutions that can provide the necessary reliability, enterprise-class security, and QoS requirements.
