FORWARD
The 2008-2012 Buncombe County Aging Plan identified a major gap in the need for awareness of community services and programs available to older adults. One of the Aging Plan’s five recommendations is for Buncombe County to “Develop, maintain and create public awareness about a comprehensive, Senior Resource Directory in print and on-line.”
The result is this Senior Services Directory, which will serve as a key instrument in making important and relevant resources known to county seniors, as well as their families, friends, and caregivers. This Directory is a valuable community resource, providing information that is often not easily accessible. Agencies and community organizations working with older adults can also make extensive use of this updated directory, as it offers a quick and organized way to locate information and services.
The Senior Services Directory project was accomplished through a partnership of local organizations via the Community Awareness Committee of the Buncombe County Aging Coordinating Consortium (ACC), the advisory body to the County Commissioners on aging-related issues. Partners included representatives from:
CarePartners Health ServicesThe Council on Aging of Buncombe County, Inc. Land-of-Sky Regional Council, Area Agency on AgingUnited Way’s 2-1-1 of WNC
This edition of the directory reflects information in effect as of July 2010. It has been reviewed for accuracy by the ACC’s Community Awareness Committee.
This fourth edition is available online via The Council on Aging website at: www.coabc.org, with links to the directory on the Land-of-Sky website (www.landofsky.org), and United Way’s 2-1-1 website (www.211wnc.org).
The printed version of this directory will be updated at least every two years, and the online version will be updated twice annually. To update a listing for your agency or program, please contact The Council on Aging at 277-8288.
