Purpose: “A good resume can open the doors of opportunity”

Ok, now that you have done some research about the career of your dreams, let’s talk about how you can land a job that will get your foot in the door.

An entry-level job can give you an opportunity to work around professionals in that field, and “network” with them. The entry-level job that you decided on in your Career Research will be the job you are applying to on your Cover Letter and the “Objective” on your Resume. Utilizing the list of Power Words (http://humid.edmonds.wednet.edu/documents/senior-exp/powerwords.pdf) can make your Cover Letter and Resume more professional.

Directions

1. Read through the “Resume Faux Pas” pdf. document for some funny examples of what not to write on your resume. These actually came from Monster.com...

2. Review the Sample Resume. (http://departments.edmonds.wednet.edu/documents/senior-exp/Sample-Resume.pdf) Write your Resume based upon the entry-level job you researched in Task 1.1.

3. Once you have completed your Resume, choose 2 peers and 1 adult (detail-oriented people strongly suggested) to edit your work and sign on the paper. Submit your marked up copy along with your revised printed and perfected Resume to your instructor.

3. Once you receive your Resume from the instructor with edit markings, make the corrections, print a copy, and bring it with you to the Mock Interview.

If you really want to impress your interviewer, print on 100% cotton fiber paper (the good stuff), costs a little more but well worth it. Only use white, ivory or very light gray resume paper, for a professional look.
