Growing up weve always had role models like, Superman, Spiderman and Batman. As we grow
older we change and so do our role models. Now many look up to Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Eminem,
but as for me, my role model was my father. He was someone that I always looked up to, but not for
the job he did, but for who he was. My father and I were very close; he always listened to me and
bought me anything I wanted. I was daddys little girl and never wanted that to change. But of course
all good things must come to an end one day.
At age nine my parents got divorced and it broke my heart. I knew that my father was to blame for
what happened but I couldnt accept the fact and always held my mom responsible. After 4 years of
not seeing my father, one day my mom met my cousin and he told her my dad was in the hospital. We
called many hospitals in Brooklyn until we found the hospital. I went and saw my dad the next day; I
was timorous and afraid to see him because I didnt know what was wrong. Turns out my father had
lost his sight, I cried so hard and it hurt me so badly because he couldnt see how much his little girl
had grown up. When he got out of the hospital I started to go to my fathers house every week and
visit him. We talked and laughed and had many wonderful moments together. We were united again
and I couldnt have been happier, but it was very difficult for me, I had to ta ke care of my father
because soon he could not walk anymore. And even though my father could not see and walk
anymore he was never cheerless or gloomy. He always had a smile on his face and made everyone
laugh. I realized that I have become more and more of my father, never sad or depressed. He was the
greatest thing that had ever happened to me and I was so thankful to be in his life again.
My father always taught me to never be sad, he always said never be serious in life always joke
around. I always had a smile on my face but my heart was always sad. There were many
responsibilities for me; I had school, my home and my father. When I was with my father I had to

clean, attempt to cook, do everything he needed me to do. I would have to put everything in the same
place so he could feel for everything. All I ever wanted to do was help my father, which led to helping
me find out what I want to in the future; occupational therapy.
November, 2011 my father passed away, this was and still is a very hard time for me. I felt as if it
was my fault; I couldnt physically help him get better, even though I wanted to. He helped me realize
that occupational therapy was the job for me. Even though I could not help do anything to help him
physically get better, I know that I will get the comfort I need by helping others. I would love the
feeling to know that I am helping someone recover and get back to their normal lives so they can
enjoy it.
Even though my father is not physically here anymore, he will always be in my heart to guide me.
He is still my role model and I will never lose him because he is in me. My father has impacted me so
much, taught me never to be sad. He was a generous and kind person and taught me to be like that,
and those are traits I will never lose. Because of my father I have become the person I am today and I
am so thankful for him.
