Existem poucas culturas que deem tantaimportância ao quotidiano como a

japonesa. Ao invés de muitos países no ocidente,nos quais o design serve como uma forma de os-tentação, no Japão é utilizado para elevar ocomum e a qualidade de vida com pequenos pormenores que fazem toda a diferença. Sejam osinteriores de um restaurante, um bule ou um sofá,os japoneses possuem uma especial atenção aodetalhe e à simplicidade, uma obsessão pela perfeição, pelo saber fazer, seguindo tradições imbuídas na sua sociedade desde há muito e foineste ambiente que a Ritzwell foi criada em 1992.

Japanese. Unlike many countries in the west,in which design serves as a means of ostenta-tion, in Japan it is used to lift the mundaneand quality of life through minor details thatmake all the difference. Whether the interiorof a restaurant, a teapot or a sofa, the Japanesepay special attention to detail and to simpli -city; they are obsessed with perfection, withknowhow, using traditions long imbued intheir society. This was the environment inwhich Ritzwell was created in 1992.

Desenhada pelo diretor criativo, a poltronaClaude resume na perfeição o conceito único damarca. Apesar de à primeira vista se assemelhar aosclássicos nórdicos de meados do século xx, estapeça exibe uma forte personalidade e linhas mar-cadamente japonesas, a começar pelos elegantes

Miyamoto continues, reveal-ing that: “it’s not just simplicity that matters;we want to create through our Japanese philo -sophy. Machines are unable to express thedeepest human thought. Ritzwell’s creationshave been developed through the observationof the gentle flow of time. We combine thefinest materials with delicate craftsmanship toconstruct an essence of cosiness, and unlikemass-produced objects, our furniture mergesperfectly into everyday living.”

Designed by the creative director, the‘Claude’ armchair perfectly sums up thebrand’s unique concept. Despite, at firstglance, resembling classic Nordic designs ofthe mid 20th century, this piece reveals astrong personality and distinctly Japaneselines, beginning with the elegant arms formedfrom solid oiled walnut. Inspired by antiquesculptures of Buddha, ‘Claude’ expresses tran-quillity, combining antique elements to createsomething surprisingly new. Another piece tocatch the eye is the ‘Marcel’ chair, with itsflowing, organic shape and its intelligent useof technology, forming an unforgettable piece,ideal for passing down through the genera-tions. The sofas created by Miyamoto don’t gounnoticed either. The comfortable ‘LightField’ reveals a Japanese reinterpretation of thetypical Italian sofa – known for their low, deepseating – through attractive backs in leatherand elegant metal feet. For its part, the ‘Diana’sees walnut once again joined by leather, toproduce a timeless piece, rich in details that

Giving particular emphasis to natural materials, Ritzwell incorporates age-old tradi-tions in a vision of contemporary design. “TheJapanese have long believed that the ‘eightmillion gods’ are present in everything andthis belief has shaped the way in which we approach nature and natural phenomena, andhow we coexist with them. The philosophy ofcoexistence with nature, a lifestyle with natu-ral elements and with no distinction between‘interior’ and ‘exterior’ is clear to see in tradi-tional Japanese houses,” reveals Miyamoto,adding that, “the Japanese have developed anaesthetic code that appreciates subtlety anddepth, enjoying the splendid interaction between light and shade caused by the chang-ing seasons, the sounds of the wind and thehumming of insects.” The serene way of viewing life in general is clear to see in the collection developed by Ritzwell, which basesits design process on “seeking new creative dimensions, without being excessive. Our furniture is based on the beauty and peace resulting from coexistence and harmony, reflecting the beauty of the Japanese aesthetic.Our desire is to continue to create furniturewhich fills our heart, which makes an environ-ment cosy, which makes us happy”. �
