We are so happy to welcome Lauren Patrus, our new Associate Pastor! Lauren is moving here from Atlanta, Georgia. She was involved with a high school youth group at Morrow Presbyterian Church in Morrow, GA. During her college years, Lauren worked for First Presbyterian Church of Rome, GA and was involved in campus ministry. After graduation, Lauren worked for two years as a missionary on the staff of an international Christian school in Vienna, Austria. Upon returning to the states, Lauren taught middle school students for six years. Then she joined the staff at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta as the Director of Elementary and Family Ministries. It was during those years that her calling to parish ministry became clear. With the love and support of the pastoral leadership and families that she served at First Pres Atlanta, Lauren enrolled in the Master of Divinity program at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. She completed her degree this past May, and will be ordained in October (at her home church in Atlanta) after she has passed the examination given by San Francisco Presbytery. Lauren will begin her work here at First Presbyterian San Leandro in early September. She will be serving as our ¾ time Associate Pastor, and her responsibilities will include the children s Christian education and fellowship programs, working with our senior high youth director, leading in worship, preaching, doing some pastoral care, and overseeing the adult education program. She will be officially installed here as Associate Pastor on Sunday, November 5 th . Lauren is engaged to be married later this year, so we look forward to welcoming her fiancé Scott to our church family as well! We are putting together a Cook Team to make meals on the 2nd Tuesday of each month for the Building Futures Women’s Shelter. We need to provide a main course, as well as a salad and/or vegetable, dessert, bread and beverage. Ideally, the team will consist of around 6 people, who make a portion of the meal and then deliver it to one central place. Then one person delivers it to the Shelter. If you are interested in volun-teering for this, please see Su-zanne Yee or call her at 510-638-3892. She and Don have done this over the years, but their pre-vious team disbanded and so they are helping to organize a new team. We hope you’ll con-sider helping to provide this sup-port to women and children who are going through a rough time of transition.

The Chancel Choir will have a special rehearsal workshop on Saturday, September 9

th

at 9:00 am.

CHANCEL CHOIR WORKSHOP

On September 10th,

we will begin a new year of the “narrative lection-ary” which focuses on the biblical story from Creation through the early

Christian church. Over a four-year cycle, the texts help us to learn about God’s redemption of his creation throughout history. The church year shapes the flow of the narrative lectionary, so that we will begin in the fall with readings about God’s dealings with Israel, and

culminate in Advent with the prophets who speak of longing and hope. During Christmas and through Lent/Easter, we will have readings from each of the four gospels (this year will focus on the gospel of John). After Easter, selections from the book of Acts and Paul’s letters will trace the movement of the resurrection message, culminating on Pentecost with readings focusing on the Spirit. We hope you will join us for worship at 9:30 am each Sun-day morning.

A free copy is re-served for each person/family that had their photograph tak-en; others may purchase a copy for $10. A big word of thanks to all of you who helped with the photography sessions, and to Elder Kathy Pearson and Jeanette and Bill Bragonier who oversaw this big project! Also thanks to Cassie Clark who put together the lovely activity pages!

NEW PICTORIAL DIRECTORIES HAVE ARRIVED Again this year our all-church

picnic will be taking place at the Lake Chabot Regional Park (adjacent to the marina and the parking lot), at the Mallard Picnic Site (off the Main Entrance to the park, on Lake Chabot Road). th, and then beginning

in November, we will resume our usual first Sat-urday of the month meetings.

The Men’s group will be considering the Ques-tions God Asks Us in Scripture, so we will have some interesting discussions indeed!
