Wonga Mains Project

The development of the Wonga Mains entries are progressing satisfactorily with the Conveyor roadway at a distance of 609 metres, the Rubber Tyre Vehicle roadway at 370 metres and the Track roadway at 403 metres. Development has been focused on connecting the Conveyor roadway and Rubber Tyre Vehicle road-ways together to form a ventilation circuit.

An array of geological features (dykes, faults and sills) have been encountered and successfully managed. Initial preparatory drilling did identify that these features would be encountered and suitable management strategies were instigated to manage these geological structures.

Increased work-force (24/7 operations)

The Company has employed additional work-force to commence weekend production and operate both the mines 24 hours/day and 7 days/week.

Ventilation at ‘T’ & ‘W’ mains

Considerable work has been successfully completed on upgrading the ventilation in the “T” and “W” Mains area of the NRE No. 1 mine. The immediate benefits of this upgrade will permit the operations of a second continu-ous miner unit in the 312 panel thereby increasing extraction and improving operation efficiencies.

Expansion of mining equipment fleet

Two new Sandvik MB670 continuous miners have been purchased in addition to the one purchased last quarter. One of these miners has been delivered to the NRE Wongawilli Colliery to support the development of main access and gate road for future Longwall extraction. In addition purchase orders for two new Joy 12CM30 continuous miners have been placed to phase out old mining units at the NRE No.1 Colliery. Delivery of these machines is expected early next year.

Approvals obtained for exploratory drilling

The key drilling and exploration approvals to permit access to the surface land managed by the Sydney Catchment Authority have been obtained. This is in addition to the requisite notification to the Department of Primary Industries and other government agencies.
