The challenge This two-year separation programme included a massive data extraction and management requirement. Legacy data included over 40 billion records from more than 80 different applications across multiple systems. Our approach A Project One team worked with stakeholders from both parties to develop a programme plan to cover the extraction and transfer of data. This involved defining and managing a Transitional Services Agreement between the businesses, managing third party suppliers to develop the required data extraction routines, and providing reporting across all stakeholders for the programme. Given the data volumes, dependencies and required timings, the implementation sequence was complex and involved several dress rehearsals in advance of the live migrations. The outcome Project One provided the required programme and stakeholder management expertise to enable both businesses to work together to a joint plan, despite two very different cultures and delivery methods. Project One’s independence and strong delivery drive were critical to the success of the programme. The Co-op agreed to sell its General Insurance business to a UK based insurance business and therefore required a programme to be initiated and delivered to migrate the required data and systems to the new owner’s insurance platforms. Following on from the delivery of a number of successful separation programmes within the Co-op, Project One were again asked to programme manage the delivery and implementation.
