From The Finance CommitteeFrom The Finance CommitteeFrom The Finance CommitteeFrom The Finance CommitteeFrom The Finance Committee

For the Finance Committee this is our slow season. The Club’s budget for2007-2008 amounting to $14,171,000 has been thoroughly reviewed,

31 are segregated in bank accountsand need Board approval before theyare utilized. As we have informed youin the past the club has been forcedby the tight insurance market inFlorida to self insure a significantamount of potential storm damage. These reserves plus our borrowingpower are crucial in our ability torecover from serious storm damage.

Also check with the Club’s office forthe date of our next meeting. In thefuture we will set definite dates foreach meeting far in advance. Allmembers are invited to attend ourmeetings, which we believe you willfind interesting and informative, andyou will be able to observe themanner in which the f inancialmatters of the club are addressed. In addit ion check the FinanceCommittee web page for additionalfinancial information.

Please address any questionsregarding financial matters in writingto the Finance Committee at theClub or e mail [email protected]

approved and adopted by the Boardof Governors. The budget for last yearwas $13,966,000. The duesincrease approved by the Board ofGovernors of $96 per Familymember and $85 per Singlemember is a good result for the firstyear of our new dues policy. And theClub will continue to provide the highlevel of service you have come toexpect at Broken Sound. This goodresult took a lot of hard work by manyincluding Department Heads,Finance Department, GeneralManager, Finance Committee andthe Board of Governors.

Operating results of the clubcontinue to be favorable. ThroughJuly the club has recorded$275,000 Excess of Revenues overExpenses From Operations versus abudgeted $144,000 Excess ofExpenses over Revenues FromOperations. The club has done betterthan budget by $419,000. Over thenext two months the budget revertsback to break even.

The club’s reserves not earmarkedfor capital replacement or loanrepayment total $3.8 million at July

Club Course News

The Club Course has had many exciting and newsworthy stories this summer! The Summer Tournament Program has been nothing but a success,

Maintenance Joe Hubbard, CGCSAnticipation is in the air for the start of the new season. We are finishingup the final details around the course to meet that anticipation. We arestill recovering from the drought and finalizing the last of the projects.

As the weather cools, we will beable to implement our program toincrease greens speed throughoutthe season.

Projects:Projects:Projects:Projects:Projects:The synthetic turf was replacedwith Seashore paspalum at theMain Driving Range Tee and isnow in the rotation for the tees atthe pro shop’s discretion.

I will open the rear driving rangeand practice chipping green assoon as the qual ity and theability of the turf to recover is atits fullest ability to recover.

The seashore paspalum teereplacement will continue until wereach our budgeted amount. Thefirst tees completed will be thefirst to open as we move furtherinto the season respectively.Eventually, over the next couple ofsummers, we will make all teespaspalum with the exception of afew par three tees. I decided toexpand the #1 white tee that wasso inadequate to handle thenumber of rounds it receives.

The Phase II plan of Buzz Jazkelawi l l be implemented at ourdiscretion where we will needtrees and/or plantings to enhancethe playability or aesthetics of thegolf course.

The last aerification will take placein the middle of September (20th,21st) with smaller tines so therecovery time will be less overallwith decent weather. In Octoberwe will be trimming the trees, mulching, planting the flowers anddoing our last hard herbicidesprays until things warm up in thespring.

Ropes will start to go back uparound the entire course, alongwith traffic control signs. If it wasmy preference I would not haveany of those objects dotting thegolf course, however, due to theheavy play, it is a necessary evilfor the course’s protection. Theninety (90) degree rule will be ineffect the entire year. Make yourruns parallel in the rough to yourball and then make a straight lineto it in the fairway. We wouldappreciate when you reach theapproach ropes/balls, never driveacross them as a shortcut but exitto the cart path and park your carton the concrete.

For the handicap players, we askyou not to cut across any ropes orsigns around the greens. To getto the designated parking markersaround the greens, please use thecart path to go past the green andthen up to the markers. This willpreserve the quality of the turf andaesthetics around the greens.

SUMMER PROGRAM

The summer is coming to a close and we are looking forward to theupcoming season. We have worked during the summer to prepare forwhat we hope will be the best season ever here at the Old Course. Theupcoming schedule of events is full of our annual favorites along withsome new tournaments that promises to be filled with fun and spiritedcompetition.

We would like to remind everyone that all players are required to checkin at the pro-shop before playing each round. We would like to requestthat everyone remain respectful of the golf course, continue to adhereto cart traffic rules and pay special attention to the repairing of ballmarks.

Our golf professional staff will consist of John Skaf, Jeff Waber, JuanPino, and Debbie Munoz. Jeff is new to our staff and has extensiveexperience in the golf business and I am sure he will be a welcomedaddition. When you get a chance, stop by the pro–shop and say hello.

Since last season, the Old Course has had some major changes to theexterior of several holes on the front nine but an intense planting planhas been replacing more than what was lost due to the construction.

damage done to the originalpractice green that also has beenincreased in size this summer. There will be NO chipping to eithergreen, as we were able to keep thechipping green in its entirety. Weadded a new chipping area to thewest side to give another angle towork on those tough chips.

All the new plantings along #2, #3and #9 have already beenmentioned.

A late addition project was addedin August to take out the thirdbunker on the right of #18 fairway. With a great deal of input from allvarious groups this should put torest the long discussions for thatfinishing hole.

We look forward to your continuedenjoyment of the golf courses andhope we meet your expectationsand in some cases surpass themthis season. Any comments forimprovements should be directedto the Green Committee Chairmen, respectively, or me. Have a greatseason!!

Mounds along #2 and #3 are inthe final stages of planting andlandscaping, along with the finalplantings on hole #9 around the teearea. As all the new materialbegins to mature we anticipate thatyou will enjoy the quality of the newtrees and shrubs versus the noxiousexotics that were removed.

Many dead trees from thehurricane and drought damage havehad to be removed around thecourse, especially between holes#1 and #18 due to safetyconcerns. We are implementing aplan to plant more native trees andsome berming to redefine the breakbetween holes.

Ropes will be going up for theseason with a different twist laterin the season. To uphold the qualityof the rough, once we raise theheight back from 2.0" to 2.75" inSeptember, we will be directingmore cart traffic into the fairways. This will protect the definitionlonger later and make the courseplay better for the tour event inFebruary where they thought ourrough had been worn down toomuch due to cart traff ic.

TRAINER’S CORNER

This month we are pleased to highlight Mrs.Susan Small. She has been exercising on andoff for the past 25 years. She decided to startworking with a personal trainer for motivationand guidance yet she received so much more inreturn. She has been training with Jerry Parrishover the past two years and has seen tremendousimprovement in her stamina and strength. Herexercise program has helped eliminate her kneepain and has contributed in her recovery from

her torn miniscus. Jerry has strengthened her core which has improved herposture and given her proper body alignment, which has greatly benefited herwalking stride. When asked for any final comments, Mrs. Small stated, “Workingwith Jerry has been a great experience.”
