October 8th – Annual Business Expo Weston Hotel 11:00 – 2:00

Free Lunch and Great Door Prizes 11:00 – 12:00 Guest speaker Ian Woodall, author of The Tao of Everest 12:00 – 2:00 Lunch, Expo and Door Prizes RSVP: Lori Moser [email protected] The speaker, Ian Woodall, was born in England, spent twenty-two years in South Africa, and then returned to the UK. He has worked as a school teacher, an internal auditor, a restaurant owner & head chef, as well as serving as an officer in the British Army before embarking on his Mt. Everest expeditions. We hope you can join us for a day of great stories, networking, good food and just plain fun! Vendors attending Pro OnCall Special Counsel MOM Iron Mountain Client Connections Precision Staffing Harper Engraving Copitrak Big Hand IKON Retrievex IST ProSource Lexis Nexis The Tao of Everest Overview During his first ascent from the south, Ian's team was trapped at 24 000ft in the worst storm in Everest history which claimed the lives of eight fellow climbers. After the trauma and tragedy of the storm Ian and his team nevertheless chose to try again, finally reaching the summit as the only ones left on the mountain. Two years later while attempting the north side of Everest Ian stopped only a few hundred meters below the summit to try and help a dying American climber. The woman's first words were, Don't leave me'. Yet ultimately Ian had to leave her to secure the safety of his own team. Nine years later Ian returned to 26 000ft on the north side of Everest to bury the woman he had been forced to leave behind. After wrapping her in the Stars & Stripes he slid her gently down the North Face to join her beloved husband lying somewhere below. Now, using the power of emotional storytelling, Ian brings the triumphs and tragedies of climbing Mount Everest directly to his audience in a funny, poignant story of personal inspiration and practical leadership.

Community Connect

On August 30th, a group of ALA members participated in a Community Challenge event. Brenda Clark from Every Child Succeeds helped up make toys for mothers at risk to use with their children. The toys/books are designed to stimulate the child and help them grow using everyday items. The projects we had yesterday were to make balls from yarn along with making books using clipart of animals and objects along with the sound they made. The books were made with paper and Zip Lock baggies. Everyone had a great time with the projects and enjoyed contributing to this organization and their cause.
