MASS INTENTIONS:

THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who helped plan and prepare our Parish Mass and Picnic. This event can only be success-ful with volunteers.

FUNERALS: Our condolences and prayers to the

family of:

Lorraine Dauphinais (Sept. 12)

Page 3: September 13, 2015 - Holy Family Parish, PittsfieldOur Mission is to live in the Spirit of the Holy Family Email: hfp@holyfamilyparish.ca Website: 75 Poirier Ave. St. Albert, AB T8N

POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS:

Universal: That opportunities for edu-cation and employment may increase for all young people. Evangelization: That catechists may give witness by living in a way con-sistent with the faith they proclaim.

MERCY MINUTE: There is but one price at which souls are bought, and that is suffering united to My suffering on the cross. (Our Lord’s words to St. Faustina). Diary 324

PARISH MINISTRIES: All ministries are asked to submit an updated schedule of their yearly events. Please include start and end months as well as duration of meetings.

STEWARDSHIP: The focus for the Stewardship Fair of 2015 is “The Harvest.” The goal will be to tap into the time, talents, treasures, and tongues of parishioners, so that they have ample opportunities to share their “4Ts” in service to our parish and to the community at large. One activity to help support the Steward-ship Fair is lay witness talks that will be delivered at the end of this weekend and next weekend Masses. Lay witness talks provide living witness of stewardship by parishioners who will share how they have grown in their faith and understanding of stewardship by their involvement in our parish and community. You will also notice that at each pew are ministry cards. We ask parishioners to re-view and consider the ministry cards as a potential “calling by the Holy Spirit” to get involved in that particular ministry. Parishioners may keep the ministry card(s) or they can leave them there for the next Mass.

Prayerfully discern what special skills and talents God might be calling you to share in our parish or community. Take the oppor-tunity to sign-up (as part Stewardship Sign-Up Sunday for September 26/27) and serve God and His family through parish lay ministries. Thank you for sharing your own time, talents, treasures and tongues to make Holy Family Parish the fertile soil in which we can all bear good fruits and a great har-vest! Forming Disciples Evening Retreat with

Father Stefano Penna Please mark your calendars and plan to attend an enriching evening of spiritual formation. Fr. Peter invites you to join him and our guest speaker, Fr. Stefano Penna for an evening retreat Tuesday, October 6th from 7pm-9pm at the Holy Family Parish Hall. Please send your RSVP by Monday Sept. 28th to [email protected]

BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS: Please remember to have all submis-sions for the bulletin emailed to [email protected] by Tuesday at 4:00 pm to be included in that week-ends bulletin. Submissions received later than this will be used in the following bulletin. All submissions are subject to review and editing.

YOUTH PROGRAM LEADERS NEEDED:

We are looking for a number of both High school students who are interest-ed in helping lead VERVE nights as well as Adults who are interested in helping lead both UNITE and VERVE nights. There will be a leaders meeting Monday September 14 at 7:00 pm in the Office Kitchen. Please keep our Youth and the success of our Youth Ministry in your prayers!

SUNDAY REFLECTION: Jesus’ mission, His purpose, was relatively basic. He came among us, to suffer in our behalf, to die, and to rise again. Although the entire understand-ing of what the Lord did for each of us may seem complex, it is comparatively simple in many ways. Today’s readings and today’s Gospel explicate this for us.

Our First Reading on this 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time, which comes to us from Isaiah, speaks to two key aspects of the Messiah to come — obedience and submission. These are two elements to which we, too, are called. Being a Catholic and a Christian entails being obedient to God, and it also re-quires that we see God as the control-ling factor in our lives. We trust Him, and we rely on Him in all aspects of how we live and what we do. In other words, as good stewards we live God-centered lives. When Isaiah says “I have set my face like flint,” he is quoting the Messiah and indicating Jesus’ determi-nation and resolve in fulfilling His mission. That may be demanding for us to emulate, but that is the steadfastness the Lord expects from us.

In the Gospel from Mark, Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” The disciples repeat what they have heard people say — “ John the Baptist…Elijah…one of the prophets,” but it is St. Peter who identifies who the Lord really is — “You are the Christ.” We must never forget that “Christ” means “the anointed,” the “Messiah,” “Christ” is not a name; it is a title. We often criticize and diminish Peter for some of his errors and misjudgments, but in this instance, he has the correct and complete answer, although he com-pletely reverses himself in the following verses. As we have pointed out many times, there is the world of humankind, and there is the world of God. Peter initially speaks from a God-centered angle, but then he immediately changes to a human outlook. This is the same trial we face — to see beyond the obvious and to appreciate the divinity and holiness of the Lord. When we plant a seed, we lose sight of it; it basically dies to our perception. Believing, having faith and trust, allows us to envision the plant and the fruits that the seed will produce. Trust in God allows us to believe, to have faith, and to show our faith with actions.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE: On Monday September 14th from 10am-12pm, there will be an in-service in the Resource Room, for anyone par-ticipating in "40 Days for Life" cam-paign to end abortion. Effective ap-proaches and methods on being a "side-walk witness" will be presented. All are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Anne: 780-458-7444 or the Edmonton Prolife Office: 780-425-1637.

CATECHISM: Program begins on September 25th, the cost is $10 per student and we invite all students grades 1-9 to join us.

We are still looking for a few more teachers for the Friday catechism program, please contact Donna at [email protected] or 780-470-5895.
