Sunday’s Sermon In response to Sunday’s message, take time to think about these truths and the response questions.

For Kids: Jesus and John the Baptist – John 3:22-36 Big Picture Question for Kids: Where did Jesus come from? Big Picture Answer for Kids: God sent Jesus to earth from heaven. Christ Connection: John the Baptist had told people to get ready for Jesus, the promised Messiah. Now that

Jesus was there, John’s mission was complete. John the Baptist joyfully stepped aside as Jesus began His earthly ministry.

Key Passage: John 3:16-17

For Teenagers: Don’t Give Up Lesson Text: Hebrews 3:7-15

Sunday, September 7 |“Jesus Revealed”—Part 2 Revelation 4 & 5

Truth: Jesus alone is worthy to take control of God’s plan for the world. Human history is not a series of random events with no direction or purpose. All things rest in the sovereign hand of the Son of God who will perfectly execute His Father’s plan for the universe. Truth: The reason the Father has given His Son such an exalted position is because Jesus humbled Himself by becoming a man and obeying His Father, even to the point of death on a cross. The trajectory of Jesus’ life was humiliation followed by exaltation. Truth: Jesus is worthy to be worshiped as God. The Father is worshiped in Revelation 4 for His work in creation, and the Son is worshiped in Revelation 5 for His work in re-creation. Jesus is not on a lower level than God the Father; He is full deity worthy of complete devotion. Response: How do you see Jesus? Do you look at Him as the humiliated lamb? Do you only think about Him as the baby in a manger? Or, do you see Him as who He is today: the victorious King of kings? Do you stand in awe and reverence before the Son of God? Do you worship Jesus as God? Worship is not merely singing about Jesus on Sundays. We worship Jesus, or rob Him of the worship He is due by the way we live our lives every day. We worship Him by submitting to His absolute authority. We worship Him by responding to difficult circumstances with absolute confidence, knowing that He is in control of all things. What changes do you need to make in your life this week in order to live a life of authentic worship toward the Son of God? Have a right mindset about who Jesus is today and respond to His worth appropriately every moment of every day. Response: What trajectory are you on? We can follow one of two trajectories in life. We can follow the trajectory of Christ and humble ourselves, submitting to God in every area of our lives, constantly putting the needs of others ahead of our own, and allowing God to exalt us at the proper time. Or we can follow the trajectory of Satan by exalting ourselves, choosing to rule our own lives, and looking out for our own interests before the interests of others. However, when we choose this trajectory, God opposes us. Take time this week to think through the specific callings in your life (e.g. husband/wife, parent, child, employee, church member, neighbor, etc.). For each of these callings, ask yourself if you are following the trajectory of Christ or Satan. For example, in your marriage, are you seeking your own interests before your spouse’s, or are you constantly putting his/her needs ahead of your own? Ask God to identify any area in your life in which you are not completely submitted to Him. Die to yourself this week by humbly following the trajectory of Jesus.
