Our Lady of Sorrows Feast Day - September 15 Saint of the Day for September 15 For a while there were two feasts in honor of the Sorrowful Moth-er: one going back to the 15th century, the other to the 17th century. For a while both were celebrated by the universal Church: one on the Friday before Palm Sunday, the other in September. The principal biblical references to Mary’s sorrows are in Luke 2:35 and John 19:26-27. The Lucan passage is Simeon’s prediction about a sword piercing Mary’s soul; the Johannine pas-sage relates Jesus’ words from the cross to Mary and to the beloved disciple. Many early Church writers interpret the sword as Mary’s sorrows, especially as she saw Jesus die on the cross. Thus, the two passages are brought together as prediction and fulfillment. Saint Ambrose in particular sees Mary as a sorrowful yet powerful figure at the cross. Mary stood fearlessly at the cross while others fled. Mary looked on her Son’s wounds with pity, but saw in them the salvation of the world. As Jesus hung on the cross, Mary did not fear to be killed, but offered herself to her persecutors. Reflection: John’s account of Jesus’ death is highly sym-bolic. When Jesus gives the beloved disciple to Mary, we are invited to appreciate Mary’s role in the Church: She symbolizes the Church; the beloved disciple represents all believers. As Mary mothered Jesus, she is now mother to all his followers. Furthermore, as Jesus died, he handed over his Spirit. Mary and the Spirit cooperate in begetting new children of God—almost an echo of Luke’s account of Jesus’ conception. Christians can trust that they will con-

News From The Streets…
God Sees The Finished Product
By Mary Martha Primerano I asked one of our homeless friends about a certain young lady we met out in the streets one day. When we first met her, she wanted prayer for her newborn baby. I asked him the next time he sees her to tell her we say hello. He began to share some harsh details about her life, and what she does to survive out on the streets. At that point I stopped him from going any further - and said tell her, God loves her! We share with our friends on the streets that if we point an accusing finger at someone to always remember that there will be 3 fingers pointing back at us. Jesus did the same in John 8:7 when he rescued a woman who was about to be stoned by the religious crowd for being caught in an adulterous act. He who is with-out sin let him cast the first stone. Then shortly after hearing this, each dropped their stones and could not continue. Jesus then asked the woman where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you? No one sir. Then neither do I condemn you. Now here is the important part found in John 8:11 - Go now and leave your life of sin. Leave it all behind. Get up and run. Run as fast as you can with all that God has put in you. Go home; go to a shelter…just go! If interested in volunteering please contact:

PAGINA 6 XXIV DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO, CICLO C 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DEL 2019
HABRÁ ALEGRÍA EN EL CIELO
POR UN SOLO PECADOR
QUE SE CONVIERTA
San Lucas 15,1-32.

Ofrezcamos
pues, nuestras oraciones por los difuntos. Los que están en pur-
