Mission Spotlight—Edgar and Sonia Rodriguez prayer walk with their seven children, telling them, “This is your mission right here.” In the second deadliest neighborhood in Chicago, Edgar and Sonia are raising their children to transform the community by sharing —and living —the gospel. Rodriguez says, “We have the solution to change their hearts, which is Jesus.” Three years ago, the Rodríguezes started New City Fellowship in their apartment. They outgrew the space and now meet at the Chicago Metro Baptist Association. Edgar and Sonia open their home, inviting drug addicts and dealers to share meals at their table. They engage their neighbors and exercise wisdom when it comes to protecting their children. They move forward, holding out the gospel and trusting God to work, desiring to be light in the darkness.
