Th a n k s b e to G o d f o r o u r C at e c h i s t s This weekend is the national Catechetical Sunday; it is the weekend when we honor and pray for all who are catechists in our parishes in the United States. The theme for this year’s celebration is “I received what I handed on to you” which are words taken from the First letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians (I Cor. 11:23). Paul reminds the new Christian community of the importance of handing on the truth of our faith in Jesus Christ precise-ly because that truth has changed my life! And what I have been given, I am to freely give to others.
Our men, women and youth catechists are among the most caring, thoughtful, and generous of pa-rishioners. Not only do they wish to share their faith, but they also work hard in preparing for clas-ses, in getting to know their students, and in trying to share faith in meaningful ways so that Jesus Christ and his Church are made real. Catechists will always be needed in our parishes; this year will be very different as many are being called on to teach and share faith in very different ways (e. g. ZOOM, telephone conversations, men-toring, etc.). I am so grateful to them for stepping up to serve once again. As one who attended CCD (now called Faith Formation), I stop this weekend to remember and to thank God for the catechists that were instrumental in my faith development. I didn’t realize then what I now know: they handed on to me what they had received and they did so joyfully, sacrificial-ly, and gracefully. Thanks be to God for our catechists. I encourage you to recall those who taught you about Jesus and our Church; and if you can, you might contact her/him to thank them for the gift of faith they passed on to you. You may certainly pray for them!
V o l u n t e e r s N e e d e d For the past few months St. Timothy Food Pan-try has been the recipient of several hundreds pounds of freshly picked oranges from the Har-vest Club Ministry at Crossline Church in Lake Forest. Volunteers pick oranges from a grove in Villa Park and donate these to local Food Pantries, including Saddleback Church, Crossline Church and St. Timothy. At this time they need more Volunteers to help with their next harvesting . The event will take place this Saturday, September 26, from 7:00 a.m to 11:00 am. This would involve climbing ladders and carrying big boxes. Individ-uals, couples or families with children over the age of 14 are welcome and invited to participate. For more information about this event, kind-ly contact: David Kern directly at: [email protected] , 949-280-6649

We are kicking off Catechetical Sunday by introducing our Family Faith Formation Programs. Our online based programs serve our families with children from preschool to high school. Stay tuned! Next week we highlight our Faith Formation Programs for Adults.
C h i l d r e n ’ s F a i t h F o r m a t i o n Have you ever had a coach, a tutor or a mentor
guide you in sports, school or work? St. Timothy Parish invites families with children from pre-school through 8th grade to join us and explore a transformative way of handing on the Way of Faith to your children. Catechists will accompany families in facilitating this year’s Faith Formation opportunities. Registration for Children’s Faith Formation pro-grams will begin on Wednesday, September 23 at www.st-timsrc.org/children or in person, by appointment in the Children’s Faith Formation Office. Marya Wallace Director of Children’s Faith Formation [email protected] 949-495-4126
C o n f i r m a t i o n Online registration open September 21 and closes October 15, 2020. Preparation will be asynchronous, at-home, fami-ly-centered modules with short videos, followed by non-digital experiences, discussion and activi-ties for the whole family and sponsors. Year 1 will focus on “Foundations” (short Weekly Catholicism 101 modules) Year 2 will focus on the Sacrament of Confirmation and Discipleship (fewer but longer online modules). We will include opportunities for on-site group liturgical experiences and small group fellowship, either online or in-person. Periodic sharing calls and retreat opportunities will also be offered digi-tally or in a hybrid experience. If you are a teen who also needs to be Baptized or receive First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, please register for Confirmation to be prepared for these additional Sacraments. For more details email Matt Zemanek [email protected].
