UPCOMING SERMON SERIES September 2016
In late August we began a worship series on the topic of … PURPOSE. This series will continue through September. Several years ago now, Pastor Rick Warren (America’s Pastor) wrote a best-selling book (based on scripture) called “A Purpose Driven Life.” That’s where the title of this series comes from … and based on scripture, with commentary from Pastor Warren, we’ll be learning together about God’s purpose for each and every one of our lives. So, do you know why you’re here? Let’s find out together, shall we?. Individual messages for August/September will be:
“Designed With and For a Purpose” – Isaiah 26:3
“Designed for Pleasure” – Isaiah 61:3; 29:13; Psalm 147:11; Rom. 12:1a
“Formed for God’s Family” – Eph. 1:5
“Created to Be Like Jesus” – Rom. 8:29
“Shaped for Serving God” – Eph. 2:10
“Made for a Mission” – Acts 20:24
Come join us for this very important teaching about God’s plan for each and every one of our lives!

“DON’T MISS SUPPER … OR YOU’LL GO HUNGRY!” “You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing, but you should meet together and encourage each other. Do this even more as you see the day coming.” – Hebrews 10:25 (NCV)
Greetings to all members & friends of Trinity UMC!
I do hope & pray (as I wrote about back in June) that each and every one of you has had a joy-
filled Wisconsin summer! What a great time to catch up with family & friends, and to spend that
extra time just connecting relationally with those we love…
One of the great memories of my childhood is the family dinner table—supper actually. I have 4
siblings—2 sisters & 2 brothers, so our household was never dull. We’d be up in the mornings,
getting ready to go to work or to school or other summer activities. And my mother would be in
charge of making sure all this went smoothly each and every day. Sometimes breakfast was ‘on
the fly’ as we went out the door. But, we were always cared for, always fed—our needs being
met.
Mom never minded the hectic lifestyle of our family, as long as she could count on a regular time
for us to get together, to catch up on each other’s activities, and to support & encourage one
another—no matter what we were going through. That was being family, to my mom. And all of
this usually happened, for us, around the dinner table. I’ll never forget my mother’s final words
as we ran out of the house in the mornings. She’d say to all of us, “Don’t miss supper … or you’ll
go hungry!” In other words, she wasn’t going to do this twice … or more. You needed to be at
the table together, because it was about much more than just the physical meal … and Mom
knew that.
Folks, this example is so much like our church family in so many ways! First, there’s a time for
everything. Summer break (from a hectic school year schedule) is a time for individual families
to catch up; when school starts up again, it’s a great time to get our individual families back to
our church family, back to regular weekly worship … or back to the table, if you will. You see,
every single week—as a church family, we have a regular time of gathering together—to be
reminded that God is God and we are not, to be reminded that we are part of a much larger
family that’s not just for this world but eternal, and to take nourishment—spiritually speaking,
that our souls might remain healthy, always ready for the Day our Lord returns.
We who are a regular part of putting on this meal … work very hard to make it relevant week in
and week out—a special time to catch up and to encourage one another, no matter what we’re
going through. And I’ve got to say, when one or more of the ‘family’ is missing from the table,
you are missed! So, as your pastor, I want to say that this is the time to come back to the table!
And, like my mother would say, “Don’t miss supper … or you’ll go hungry!” We don’t want that.
We want all members & friends of the Trinity family to get their fill—regularly. We want to be a
healthy church; that starts with healthy members & friends…
See you at the Table, Pastor Rom
Trinity United Methodist Church Welcomes…
Bishop Nelson Wesamoyo
Bishop Nelson Wesamoyo, the Ugandan Leader of the Equipping Conference for Effective Christian Leaders (ECECL), is coming to Wisconsin. Many United Methodists from Wisconsin—congregations, pastors, previous pastors, or individual members who have come to know Bishop Wesamoyo and his ministry—have supported Wisconsin Advance Special #7945, which is the ECECL. Support for this ministry has been helping Christians grow in their faith and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, specifically in Uganda.
Some of the news Bishop Wesamoyo will share with us will be how God has been working through the ECECL to grow it to the point where starting a seminary was necessary. The seminary opened its doors in 2015 and 20 students have completed their first year. One of the opportunities we have might be to help some of these students realize their second year in seminary, etc. Bishop Wesamoyo will come see us on Sunday, September 18, joining the Adult Fellowship for a meal at 6:30 PM, with a program—open to the public—by Bishop Wesamoyo at 7:30 PM…
More about Bishop Nelson Wesamoyo…
It is a great joy to introduce you to Bishop Nelson Wesamoyo. Probably be-cause he was abandoned by his parents at the age of 9 and left to raise his 4 siblings alone during the terrible reign of Idi Amin Dada, Bishop Wesamoyo has a heart for development of communities. Nelson became pastor of the Church of Redeemed of the Lord in Maluku, Uganda in 1995, at a time when Maluku was still a slum. Under his care the congregation has grown in membership and influence having planted more than 50 churches in the area and raising up dozens of pastors. In 2008, he was made bishop and oversees more than 30 Redeemed churches in eastern Uganda. Bishop Wesamoyo has done extensive ministry and church planting through-out Uganda, as well as in the neighboring countries of Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda,
South Sudan, Ethiopia, the Republic of Congo, and Nigeria in the western part of Africa. Nelson and his wife Agnes will celebrate their 20
th anniversary Sept. 7. They have no biological children,
but they have nurtured many spiritual children who visit them frequently. Sept. 4 Bishop Wesamoyo will celebrate his 51
st birthday.
Beginning in 2001 Bishop, along with other leaders from the Mbale region, formed Green Pasture Chris-tian Outreach as a vehicle to help disadvantaged people in the community. This outreach includes a sec-ondary and vocational school (Green Pastures); a ministry to young children (Beersheba); a training con-ference for pastors and other Christian leaders (Equipping Conference for Effective Christian Leaders Wisconsin Conference Advance Special # 7945), which gave birth to a seminary August 2015. In 2013, members of the Eureka UMC helped get “Goshen Blessings” going by putting in a well and a school in the refuge community of Bweyale. Bishop understands the importance of self-sustaining ministries and creating jobs so he has helped to start two businesses: Safe Spot, an office supply store in Mbale, and a guest house in Maluku. If you would like more information about Bishop Wesamoyo or these ministries, you can contact Rev. Larson at 608-606-4648.

CONFIRMATION UPDATE
Just a reminder that when Pastor Rom moved to Trinity UMC, Lomira, one year ago, adjustments were made in the traditional confirmation program. It was decided that confirmation would be moved to participants being in their sophomore/junior years of high school and to do this every other year starting fall of 2018. Instead of a 2-year program, this will be a one year program where participants will be in class for about 13 weeks in the fall, but really take time to ‘try on the church’ for the entire school year. At the end of confirmation, an opportunity will be giv-en to be confirmed (an important step in the process toward membership) sometime around Easter. Mem-bership itself, however, will be reserved for those 18 years or older. If parents or members have any ques-tions about these changes, you’re invited to contact Pastor Rom at the church office—(920) 269-4411 or email at [email protected]. Thank you!

Gwen’s Pen… I lifted the receiver of the jangling phone. The room was suddenly still. Although it was my house, we waited for Mom to pick it up. Mom had come from Minnesota to help me with my second baby … a little brother for our now nearly two-year-old. Hours earlier, we had been notified that my brother, a seminary student traveling with the school chorus, had been injured in a traffic accident....two broken legs.... bad, but not life-threatening. We had gathered to wait for more news. Mom turned from the phone and we tried to read her face. Slowly she said, “He died. …. That was Joy (my brother's wife). They're not sure what happened; maybe a traveling blood clot.” As my tears came, my two-year-old ran to me and climbed on my lap. My mother-in-law, in an effort to ease my pain in the best way she knew how, got up from her chair, took the child from my lap and tried to keep him occupied and quiet. At that moment, there was nothing I wanted more than to have that child snuggled up against me. I longed to hold him in my arms. I have thought of that moment and my reaction many times throughout the decades since then. Did I expect my child, who understood nothing about my pain, to comfort me in some way? Yes, I guess I did. Recently I received some insight as I read a devotional in “God Calling” by “Two Listeners”, a book pub-lished way back in 1940 and in its eleventh printing in 1953. It's a collection of meditations written by two women who received daily inspiration, comfort, assurance, and direction as they prayed and listened for God's silent voice. In the meditation I read from this book a few weeks ago, God tells us that, yes, He walks with us to guide and inspire, comfort, strengthen and uphold us, but also for His own solace and comfort. When we take our child into our arms, is it only to help and protect the little one? Most likely, we also find joy and com-fort in the child's simplicity, love and trust. And so it is with God and His children. Our dependence on Him, our unquestioning trust, our simple love for Him to bring joy to God. Is that a new thought? It was to me. But thinking back over sixty years to that day when I wanted my child as close to me as breath, I understand.
I would like to thank Pastor Rom for putting together a funeral service for my ex-husband Scott Collier on May 21st. Even though we were divorced for more than 20 years if was still a very sad time for my family saying goodbye. Also a big thanks to Priscilla for playing some music for the service. We have a great church family that can compare to none and I really appreciate the individuals that brought some food for the lunch after the service. We are so blessed to have great people in our community. Thank you to all. Sandy Collier
Greetings from the Bell choir….
I hope everyone had a great summer and/or vacation during the summer months. We actually did have summer weather for a change. And for those of you that do not like the heat there is this wonderful nvention of air conditioning. As I reflect back on the second season of directing the bell choir I am very thankful that we had a very successful year. The first year I was very nervous doing something out of my comfort zone. But as time went on I became more confident with kind words of encouragement and prayers. We all need to hear from time to time that we are doing ok. The Lord knows how much negativity there is in the world and some kind words can actually make someone's day better. Sure I make mistakes but it is important to move forward and not dwell on the past. Part of my success is due to the bell ringers experience and helpful hints. Somehow it all just seems to work out. I would like to
thank all of the regular ringers and also those who have helped out to make a full choir of 11 ringers. We still do have some spots available so if you would like to come to a practice we will be starting @ 6 o'clock on Wednesdays, with our first practice being September 7th. I hope to see some new fac-es as well as familiar ones so come in and join us for some fun. Thanks everyone and keep on ringing. Sandy Collier, Bell choir director.

summer months…so if you would like to

please contact Jason Ehlert (922-0361 or

The Trinity Cemetery Association has announced an increase in the cost of purchasing cemetery
lots at all three of the locations, the first increase since January of 2005. Increased costs of perpetu-
al care maintenance and lower returns on perpetual care investments, along with higher administra-
tive costs and increased land values are primarily responsible for the need. New prices will become
effective as of January 1, 2017:
For members of Trinity Church, lot prices will be increased to $600.00 per lot from the current
$300.00, including perpetual care.
For non-members, lot prices will be increased to $1200.00 per lot from the current $600.00, including perpetual care.

Seminary Intern to Work at Trinity UMC for 2016-17 School Year
Several weeks ago, now, Pastor Rom received a phone call from the District Superintendent—Rev. Sue D’Alessio—asking if Trinity would be interested in hosting a seminary student as an intern during the up-coming school year. Right up front, the D.S. advised that the expense of this program had already been covered by the Conference. So that would not be a concern. Pastor Rom, Jane, and Teresa Amerling agreed to meet with the potential intern and make a final decision from there. On Wednesday, May 25, a lunch meeting took place and we all met with Seongmin Kim—currently a seminary student at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois—though living in the parsonage at North Fond du Lac with her husband, who is the pastor there, and their 12 year old daugh-ter. Having met Seongmin once before at a District Committee on Ministry meeting, this very personal meeting in Lomira sealed the deal … and we agreed to host Seongmin as a field education ministry site for the upcoming school year. Following is a short bio on Seongmin: Seongmin Kim was born in the Republic of Korea and grew up in Chun-cheon—a small but famous lakeside city. In February 2001, she finished a Bachelor of Theology degree from Methodist Theological University in Seoul, Korea and a Master of Theology degree in 2004 as well. While in seminary, Seong-min volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, a youth worship band leader, a Bible study group teacher, and served for children's ministry later. Seongmin was married to Rev. Sukhyun “Tommy” Jung in 2003; they have a daughter, Esther M. Jung who was born in 2004. Following God's plan, Seongmin came to the United States in 2003 and has attended Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois. She’s been working on her Masters of Divinity (MDiv) program since 2015. Before Seongmin and her family came to Wisconsin, they served The Korean Methodist Church of Leavenworth, Kansas—a multi-racial & multi-cultural congregation—for 7 years. Please join Pastor Rom, the staff, and the leadership of Trinity UMC in welcoming Seongmin Kim to work at Trinity UMC throughout the upcoming school year. Though Seongmin may be helping in a variety of ministry areas, one project she will be about this year will be to help form a ministry care team. Seongmin will be personally introduced to the congregation during a Sunday worship service in September, so please watch for this exciting announcement!
