SENIOR WARDEN’S PERSPECTIVE
The “slower time” of summer has gone for 2019. The happy sound of the Vacation Bible School, children playing in the garden, has long since left for this year. There were fewer an-nouncements in the bulletin, fewer people in church, fewer activities on campus, fewer shoppers and donations coming into the Thrift Shop.
The refurbishment and upgrades of our campus facilities have continued. For those of you that have received and read the weekly updates, you have seen there has been steady progress by the year-round members to whom we all are indebted.
We continued our worship on Sundays and Wednesdays. The study of the Bible continued. Clergy came and went … but the people of God at All Saints’ continued in prayer, to comfort those who are mourning and to welcome newcomers.
What we can’t see, hear, or touch is the work of the Holy Spir-it at work in our lives and work of the Search Committee. I’ve been through the clergy search process at least 4 times in my life and it is always a challenging time of waiting. We have had to trust God and the labor of the Search Committee to contin-ue. As Senior Warden, I know what you know about their work. That has caused me to be reminded to trust God to pro-vide a faithful priest for this parish.
September sees the return of Sunday School, the Choir and our seasonal friends, neighbors and members. Before you know, it will be Stewardship Sunday and four new Vestry members will be replacing Jerry Walters, George Bonney, Harry Kapple and me. Pray for those who will come forward.
I hope you had your holy recovery time as the dynamic pace of season is ramping up. I, for one, can’t wait to see what God will do NOW with us.

PEERING IN THE PAST
During the summer, this photo was sent to me by Sandy Henderson Thurlow, local historian and author, with the following question:
“I think it is of Eva Middleton Dehon Arbogast and her husband Charles B. Arbogast with their son Ben born April 1928. Do you recognize the priest?”
This is the only surviving photo, found to date, which shows bricks were utilized under the church at its original location.
The photo is taken on the south side of the church in front of the Patrick Dunn window, the one with the Bible in the top half. My hypothesis is that this a photo taken at Ben’s baptism and of course, the baptismal records have not survived. It is still installed in the same place within the church to this day. Subsequently we expanded the church so it doesn’t appear that way today.
As Ben was not a newborn in this photo, I am not convinced that this is the Reverend A.H. Tyrer who was here through the end of June 1928. The Bishop removed him from his assignment at All Saints’. The congregation didn’t appreciate this action as his sermons were engaging intellectually and emotionally. The church was thriving under his leadership.
I believe this gentleman is the Rev. William Curtis White (1871-1960), who was the next priest to arrive to serve at All Saints’ at this timeframe.
As recorded in the records of St Mary’s, the parents were one of the families that moved their membership to St. Mary’s in 1932, after that new church was established. Both are both buried in our cemetery

I am again a clergy volunteer for Kairos # 51 at MCI (Martin County Correctional Institution), a state prison that has about 1500 residents from all over the State of Florida. Our weekend will be from October 17 th through October 20th. The weekend is extremely popular and follows the pro-gram of Cursillo; our motto is Listen, listen; love, love. We help the candidates feel God's love and help them find hope for their lives.
The prisons in Florida are called correctional, but they offer few rehabilitation services; only in Kairos and the Chapel can they find help and a positive future in a place that has a very negative environment. There are numerous violent in-cidents and considerable drug and alcohol abuse.
I do a weekly Bible Study at MCI which begins with a prayer invoking God's presence into our group through the Holy Spirit. After this we read the Psalm of the day. This is very consoling to them. I bring them Communion in the same way as the eucharistic ministers at All Saints’.
There is considerable sharing of plans for the future. This group offers them a place to really share and find the love of Christ. We are now using a new study of the Bible devel-oped by Kairos. This starts with a focus on the Gospel of John. We end with the Prayer of Saint Francis, a very mean-ingful way for them to follow the Way of Christ. The men in my group express how much this group means to them. They come every week. I have been doing this group for al-most 10 years now and will probably continue as long as I am able.
I would like to dedicate what I do at MCI to Robert Kam-pert and also Pat Kharimanian who have financially given substantially to this ministry. Thank you very much.

ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY
SCHOOL
Our children have been busy the past few weeks with summer camps,
family vacations and Vacation Bible School. Since Sunday School ended at the end of May, summer also provides an opportunity for our children to attend an entire church service, as well. Seeing their family members model singing, praying, listening and learning in “big” church is a very meaningful experience for them.
Sunday School will resume on September 8, the Sunday after Labor Day. Known as Rally Day, we will, for now, continue our same schedule with the children beginning their morning in church with their families, leaving after the collect to attend Sunday School and then returning to receive communion or a blessing from the priest. Our new priest may suggest a new model but, until then, we will wait and see.
Speaking of Rally Day, we would like to invite the congregation to our annual Rally Day Ice Cream Social after the 10:00 service in Houg Hall. Come and support our children by attending this fun event!
If you have friends or family with children who are not established in a church program, please tell them about ours. Our curriculum is dedicated to teaching the Gospel and building a relationship with Jesus, knowing and understanding the Liturgical Calendar, and actively participating in Community Outreach and church projects. Plus, making friends and having fun is a fringe benefit!

The Men's Fellowship of All Saints’ Episcopal Church will meet on October 7, 2019 for the first meeting of the 2019-20 season. All following meetings will be on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 pm.
The meetings will address the topics relevant to our church in transition such as:
1. The search for our new rector.
2. Our annual pledge drive.
3. Support for our Scholarship and endowment funds.
4. Fundraising to support our community outreach.
We look forward to meeting new members and welcoming back our old friends. We consider all men of All Saints’ to be members of the fellowship.

THE ORDER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE KING
The All Saints' Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the
King will resume its regular meetings on Monday evening,
September 9th at 6:00 PM in Coffey Hall.
We ask that our members make note this is the second
Monday of September because the first Monday is Labor
Day. We will joyfully resume our meetings but hope that our
Parish members are all aware that our PRAYER MINISTRY
and our GREETING CARD MINISTRY are active 12 months
of the year. We count on you to let one of our members know
if prayer is desired for you, a family member or someone you
hold dear to your heart. The DOK Prayer list is confidential
and is separate from the published list in the All Saints'
Sunday Bulletin. Our members pray this list daily, in keeping
with our vows for prayer, service and evangelism (especially
among women and girls), for His Sake.
The ingathering date for the newest of the DOK funds is
September 5th - and that is for the Alpha Fund which helps to
financially support Junior Chapters. Any member wishing to
make a donation to this (voluntary contribution) Fund may do
so at our September meeting, either with cash or a check made
out to the Order of the DOK and noted in the memo spot as
"donation: Alpha Fund".
As in recent years past, we ask that all our Church family will
pray daily specifically for "no hurricanes in south east
Florida". We thank you for doing this.

Candles have long been a
tradit ion in churches
throughout the world.
What a comfort it is to
know that somewhere a
small flame is burning in
honor of loved one. In
the lighting of candles,
we remember and truly
live the words of Our
Lord: "I am the Light of
the World."
In the lighting of candles
we not only pray, but our
prayers become smaller
symbols of the One Light
of Christ. Lighting a can-
dle is a way of extending
one's prayer and showing
solidarity with the person
on whose behalf the
prayer is offered.
Even though the candles
are small, they will burn
for 6 hours and not
break the glass. Please do
not be afraid to light a
candle. They represent
prayers said and look
beautiful!

Hello to all “All Saints” ladies both near and far. Our first official meeting of the year will be Saturday, September 21, at 9:30 in Houg Hall. So, save the date! We will be covering our up-coming annual Holly Fair, set for November 23 rd and 24th, the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Now is the time to search your closets, storage unit, jewelry box, china cabinet, garage, and spare room for any items that would be perfect as a “stand -alone” silent auction item or be great combined with other items in a theme basket or grouping. (see suggested items list on page 9) Feel free to drop items off on Sundays with either me or Louise Andrews and we can securely store them in the St. John room. We’ll begin grouping items as early as mid-September, so the sooner the better! Thanks so much!
I’ll be calling each Holly Fair chairperson soon to set up a time to meet individually with each one of you on either September 13 or 14 between 10 and 12. I really want to hit the ground running this year! I’m especially grateful for all the volunteer chairpersons we have this year and for the many other volunteers who will be donating both time and talent to this big event.
Our annual, “Women’s Fellowship Welcome Back Brunch” is on October 19 th. We will have a sign-up sheet for a certain number of food/paper items to bake/bring and for those who cannot bake/bring or if all the sign -up slots have been spoken for, we’ll charge a small fee of $4 for the best brunch in town. To our northern members, “hurry back to Jensen Beach!”
Just a reminder that ALL women of All Saints’ Church are already members of the
Women’s Fellowship. It’s not something you have to “officially” join. Our purpose is to deepen the spiritual lives of the Women of All Saints’ Episcopal Church and to strengthen their participation in the mission and outreach of the Church and Community. It’s a great way to give back to the church, get to know everyone and have a lot of fun! So, if you haven’t participated yet . . . please do so now!

As we look forward to the return of the choir this month, I would first like to thank all those who blessed us with their music while the choir enjoyed their summer break: Jon Han-na, Pam Hurd, Jac Marzi, and Lelah Marzi who joined voices to sing Pie Jesu and Taste and See as a quartet; Pam who joined me in singing the hymn Be Not Afraid as a duet; John Hu-dock who played Meditation from the Thais by Massenet for us on his violin; Addison McGee who played Tempo di minuetto from Sonata in G by Beethoven when she did such a wonder-ful job filling in for me when I was out of town; Addison who joined me in playing a piano and organ duet of In the Garden; and Gary Beckett who blessed us singing and playing his own composition Amazing.
I also want to thank in advance Addison who will join me in the piano and organ duet of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing on September 1 and Gary who will play his instrumental composition A Walk to Emmaus on September 8. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each of them for helping me out this summer and blessing us so with their gift of music.
On Sunday, September 15, the choir will return. In prepara-tion for this, we will be resuming our monthly choir work-shops held on the second Saturday of every month. Thus, we will meet this month from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the choir loft on Saturday, September 14, to work on music for the month ahead. We will also continue to meet each Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. to rehearse our anthem of the day.
As we begin a new choir year, we invite anyone who loves to sing to join us. There are no auditions, there is no require-ment to read music, and extra help is available if needed. On Saturday, A u g u s t 1 7 , Robert Otto Kampert, Sr. (Bob) was hon-ored in a Cele-bration of Life at All Saints’. My family and I were grieving over his death and missing him tremendously before the Service. After the Service, our hearts and minds were at peace knowing that he was in God’s hands and shar-ing his life stories with his family, Army buddies and close friends who had gone on before…
Bob loved the people at All Saints’ and felt very privileged to be a participant in as many functions as he was able and my family and I are grateful for the many expressions of sympathy shared with us and the effort put into making his Celebration as wonderful and comforting as it was.
Our thanks and gratitude also go to Father Brandt, another Bob, who made the ceremony so special and gave the family a real feeling of not sorrow but joy that he is now with God.
Once more, thank you to our All Saints’ family.

ALL SAINTS’ WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP’S
“HOLLY FAIR & SILENT AUCTION” IS COMING!
NOVEMBER 23RD AND 24TH, 2019
We are getting ready for our annual Holly Fair & Silent Auction and could use your help! We are accepting any and all donations that will be perfect for our Holiday Shop (Christmas & Thanksgiving) and Silent Auction. Below is a list of things you could possibly donate. We can store any donated items in the St. John room for your convenience.
There will be a sign-up sheet for our huge Bake Sale as well. Be thinking about the delicious goodies you could make for this popular event. Pies, muffins, cookies, cakes, breads and candy are big sellers. Thank you to everyone who can help make this event a big success!
New merchandise: anything that would be suitable as a gift. Item should have original tag and box, if possible. (clothes, specialty books, jewelry, sporting goods, tools, small appliances, etc.)
Antiques and collectibles, family heirlooms (that the children don’t want): Items with their provenance (history if known) are very appealing.
Sports Memorabilia: is very appealing to the collector.
Jewelry: for women, men, children-antique or new, sterling silver or gold, vintage costume, and handmade are very popular.
Wine and Spirits: Single bottles-including Spirit gift sets (glasses, tumblers, steins, stem glass collections, etc.), or in holiday baskets, collections of wines, etc.
Coffee(s) and Tea(s): perhaps with a fancy tea pot and cups
Nice Christmas Decorations: new, or vintage, antique, small Christmas trees, crèches, special ornaments, hostess serving dishes, etc. (Thanksgiving, too)
Fine linens: new or antique, tablecloths, placemats, napkins, etc. holiday
Social Event Tickets: concert, play, baseball game, movie theatre
Art: Local, fine, signed, framed or ready to be framed
Gift Certificates: Visit a business or restaurant you love and ask the owner/manager for a donation in return for table space at the auction to advertise their business including brochures or cards.
Crafts: quilts, Christmas, baby, bed-size, Christmas placemats/napkins, etc.
Plants/ Gardening Books: Indoor/Outdoor, Holiday, new or in like -new condition gardening books, garden ornaments, new garden tools, gloves, etc. for a collection
Gift Baskets: Always a favorite…. any gift theme
Pet Gifts: to assemble in gift baskets for our furry friends
Holiday and Everyday Candles—to assemble in a collection
Not Electronics: Unless brand new in box and new/current technology, electronics do not usually justify the space.

ALL SAINTS’ ALTAR GUILD
When the Senior Warden reached out to me to serve on the Altar Guild last year, I accepted without hesitation to Prepare the Lord’s Table. Having previously served in our home church in Roslyn, New York for fifteen years I had both knowledge and experience. However, each church and Priest have specific needs and I am grateful to all the church members who have reached out to help and support me.
Immediately, Altar Guild member Sandy Miller and I cleaned and organized the Sacristy and the Annex in Houg Hall. Then, all items were photographed and inventoried for insurance purposes. Upon inspection of vestments, we found that our Green Pentecostal set was very badly damaged due to mold. We have begun to send them to the Almy Manufacturing Company in Maine for refurbishing. To date, the Lectern Hanging and the Priest Chasuble have been completed. The Priest Stole was too damaged and was replaced. All fine linens have been hand cleaned and they, as well, have been inventoried and properly stored.
The Altar Guild currently consists of 11 members who each are assigned a week and faithfully show up and cover for each other, when needed. Our newest member, Pat Kahrimanian, is being trained and we continue to need an additional member from the 10 o’clock service. Please prayerfully consider joining the Altar Guild in this service to our faith community.
As we set-up for Communion, Baptisms, Weddings, Memorials and Funeral Services the fellowship, friendship and faith grows.
As we move into the second part of the season of Pentecost, which is the longest period of the church year (Green Vestments and Hangings), your Altar Guild members are spending some time in planning for the busy season ahead…you and I both know how fast Advent will be here! The decorations are already out for the Fall season in all the stores!
Should you consider making Sunday altar flowers as a Memorial to a loved one or in Thanksgiving, please contact Jenny in the office or speak with me. After the Sunday Services, you are then welcome to take the flowers with you for a graveside visit or to grace your home. Many of our vestments have been donated by former or present parishioners and make a lovely memorial should that be appropriate for you and your family.
I’ll leave you with this message I recently came across…“Liturgy begins and ends with the work of the Altar Guild.”
