Eight years ago, a journey began that I never wanted to go on. A journey of trying to find myself now that my husband of 50+ years has died. He was the love of my life from the time I was a junior in high school, and life had been wonderful even with its ups and downs and challenges -- adopting three children, losing a son to a drunk driver, Hal donating a kidney to a friend, and finally, Hal losing his bale to Alzheimer’s. There were challenges but the blessings far outweighed the challenges. Four years ago, my younger son took his life. Fortunately, my sweet daughter still lives in Lubbock. Two years after Hal died, I began working at Lake Ridge Chapel. It has been such a blessing and gives me purpose each day. From working visitations, to puing together videos, and working the front desk, I love meeting the people who come in, and I hope a smile and a hug (when it was allowed) would help brighten a sad day. During this time, I also saw how many parents were losing children at every age to various circumstances. I approached Santos with the idea of a grief share group for parents who have lost children. From the very first group four years ago, it was obvious that God was going to do something special. As each person tells their story, it is like they are throwing out a life preserver and special friendships develop. Serving on the Lake Ridge Ladies Board has been a way to give back to a group that has been so vital in my own grief recovery. The friendships and fellowship have been so rewarding. I love staying busy with playing the keyboard at church, supporting Parkridge Pregnancy Center, and working at the Chapel. The Lake Ridge Ladies believe in a process of supportive interaction with family,

friends and community. By remembering and honoring our past, we believe we can be a source of strength and

inspiration for each other and those around us. The stated

mission of the Lake Ridge Ladies organization is to embrace every

Eight years ago, a journey began that I never wanted to go on. A journey of trying to find myself now that my husband of 50+ years has died. He was the love of my life from the time I was a junior in high school, and life had been wonderful even with its ups and downs and challenges -- adopting three children, losing a son to a drunk driver, Hal donating a kidney to a

RECIPE of the MONTH

From GAYLE’S DESKHi, Friends!

Here we are moving away from hot summer days and looking forward to the leaves changing and being able to spend more time outdoors. We have been shut in not only because of the virus, but the heat has been almost unbearable! We have all missed being together and are so hopeful that the days ahead will be days that we can see each other again. Santos and Valerie are so hopeful that the time that we can resume our activities will be soon. In planning for that time, they have purchased a van for us to use so that we can take short trips or even excursions here in town. That will be so much fun for our group! Something to look forward to!

We are sending out text messages with messages and also words of encouragement. If you are not receiving them, please let us know.

I miss each and every one of you. Spending time with you is one of my most favorite things to do!

Hugs!

Gayle

Dear Lake Ridge Ladies,

As the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the nation, we were left feeling vulnerable, ill-prepared, and afraid; concerned

for our safety, health, and well-being and that of those we hold most dear. From day to day, we worry about our financial

security, the fate of our economy, and wonder if life will ever be “normal” again. The magnitude of our experiences over

the past several months have prompted us to reevaluate our priorities. These are all natural responses to unforeseen events

because, as human beings, we are not mentally and emotionally equipped to deal with crises in this manner. We find

comfort in having a plan and being somewhat prepared for events that will change life as we know it and shake us to our

very core.

Although on a much smaller scale, many families face personal situations every day, which inevitably invoke these same

emotions. Because the truth is, no one is guaranteed tomorrow. Making a plan and being prepared is the only way to gain a

sense of security during times of uncertainty. Because we recognize both the financial fears and the “need for action”

during this time, we are offering $1,000 off prearranged burial and cremation services. This offer will be good for 60

days to give you ample time to make a decision.

Preneed arrangements can be made from a distance through a variety of methods, including FaceTime, Zoom, email, text,

or simply over the phone. As always, we invite you to tour our facility, visit with our staff, and learn more about our

Signature Services. Please accept this $1,000 offer as our “stimulus” to our community during this critical time. We want

to help you make the difference for your family down the road. We look forward to assisting you in this endeavor. Please

let us know how we can help.

Sincerely,

CARPET TECH

WHISK’D

Our area has been hit hard by coronavirus. That’s why Carpet Tech has mobilized to meet the COVID-19 cleanup and disinfecting needs of this community. Carpet Tech has been disinfecting for over 20 years. We are certified experts. If we can help you, let us know. Before you hire a disinfecting company, know these facts:

• Use only EPA-approved chemicals and processes for COVID-19. Carpet Tech uses Prokure1, and we apply it with spray or fog on surfaces, content, and in HVAC units. Leaves no residue.

• Be sure anyone entering your home or building is suited up for safety by wearing CDC suggested personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Be wary of guarantees. No one knows how long COVID -19 lives on surfaces and re-contamination can be instant. Carpet Tech can help repel microbial growth after disinfecting with our CT Shield spray.

As an essential business, Carpet Tech is fortunate to be able to continue working, serving our communities, and providing jobs. For more than 25 years, Carpet Tech has been here, and nothing about that has changed. Serving both commercial and residential customers, we are working in all our communities to help local businesses clean and disinfect so they can reopen safely.

Hello, everyone! My name is Diane Abbott, and I am the owner of Whisk’d! It’s an adorable little kitchen shoppe in southwest Lubbock at the corner of 98th and Slide (9810 Slide Road #400, 806-993-2665). We have been here 3-1/2 years, and it’s truly been a blessing.

I was born and raised right here in Lubbock, graduating from Monterey High School and getting my business degree from Angelo State University (my maiden name is Peel if anyone knows my family). My husband, Mike, is a retired CPA, and we absolutely love working together. It’s “take your husband to work” every day!

Our store is filled with everything you need for your kitchen. From a vast array of kitchen gadgets to bakeware and cookware and some items you didn’t even know you needed - this truly is your kitchen store! I love researching items and bringing them in and always enjoy hearing from you about what your grandmother used back in the day. Vintage items are so fun to see and the technology we have today improves on those items in a way we never expected!

We hope you can come see us, and if you prefer to shop online, we can bring it out to your car. Our website is www.whiskdlubbockshop.com, but please know that not everything is on the online store as we literally have over 6,000 items in our store! The cookie cutter collection alone has 400 items in it! And it’s fabulous! Lubbock is a great community, and we are so fortunate to live in a city that cares about small business. “Lucky me…I live in Lubbock!”
