Mary Queen Jubilee Fun Facts
September 22, 2019
Did you remember that September 19th
marked the anniversary of when Our Lady of
LaSalette appeared to two children? We
continue to celebrate and honor that day,
along with the Missionaries of Our Lady of
LaSalette. They are the only religious
community in the entire Church founded directly upon an
apparition of our Lady.

Ransomed
(25
th
Ordinary Sunday: Amos 8:47; 1 Timothy 2:18; Luke
16:113)

The dishonest steward of today’s parable was a clever
man. In danger of losing everything, he compounded his
crimes and acted boldly to ensure his future. Even the
master whom he was cheating had to give him credit for
his foresightedness.

The steward embezzled his employer’s property to save
himself. Jesus applies this in a curious way to his
disciples: “I tell you, make friends for yourselves with
dishonest wealth, so that when it fails, you will be
welcomed into eternal dwellings.”

While the first reading and the Gospel focus on money,
St. Paul writes: “There is one mediator between God and
men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as ransom
for all.” Here all the readings converge.

A ransom is the price paid to secure the release of
captives. In our case, however, no money exchanged
hands. In 1 Peter 1:1819, we read: “You were ransomed
from your futile conduct, handed on by your ancestors, not
with perishable things like silver or gold but with the
precious blood of Christ as of a spotless unblemished
lamb.”

Twice in the Gospel text, money is described as
dishonest, and Jesus states emphatically that we cannot
serve it and God at the same time.

At La Salette, Mary did not mention money, but she spoke
a lot about the local economy, which was, quite naturally,
an ongoing concern of the people of the area; in 1846, it
was rapidly becoming an obsession. If the crops
continued to fail, disaster was inevitable.

The Beautiful Lady acknowledged that reality. Referring to
the potatoes, she said, “By Christmas this year, there will
be none left.”

Besides sympathizing with her people’s plight, however,
she had something to teach them. Not being able to serve
two masters, they had made the wrong choice. Their
devotion to the hope of prosperity for its own sake had left
them, literally, unsatisfied. Mary speaks clearly:
abundance is possible, “if they are converted.”

In other words, we need to recognize that we have been
ransomed, and at what a price! This shows us just how
precious we are in God’s sight.

real cases to identify the facts and problems, and come
up with suggestion for solutions to those problems. This
method helps us learn valuable problem solving skills,

relevance to you and your spouse, come up with concrete
action plans to apply to your own family, have animated
discussions, meet other couples and build
friendships!

Show appreciation for our priests
Priesthood Sunday September 28th & 29th
The gift of prayer is a beautiful way for parishioners to
show appreciation for our priests. With your prayers
(Spiritual Bouquets), a parishioner gives the offering of a
Holy Rosary, Mass, an hour of Eucharistic Adoration, a
Chaplet of Divine Mercy or other personal prayers to
another person. For Priesthood Sunday, we are giving
these Spiritual Bouquets to our priests to lift them up and
show them how much we appreciate them and their daily
sacrifices.

You may find the Spirtual Bouquet forms in this week’s
bulletin, on the parish website, at the welcome desk or on
the information table in the Parish Center. Please turn
them in to the Reception Desk or in the designated
baskets in the Narthex of the church and in St. Joseph’s
Chapel by Friday, September 27th. They will be presented
at all Masses on Priesthood Sunday.
Letter to a Suffering Church

and on Sunday, September 29th from 2:00 4:00 PM.
It’s a chance for you to dialogue with fellow parishioners, to
share your thoughts, questions, concerns, observations
and prayers about this important topic.

Hospitality Ministry/Ushers
We are fortunate to have a large and vibrant parish family
at Mary Queen. It takes several ministries and many
volunteers within each of those ministries to conduct each
Mass. The Hospitality Ministry/Ushers are an integral part
of the Mass. Each Mass has a team of Ushers they
serve at all weekend Masses, as well as special Masses
throughout the year.Mary Queen needs more volunteers
to serve our parish as Ushers at all the Masses. If you
desire to join a ministry, but are unsure about which one
prayerfully consider serving our parish as an Usher. It is a
rewarding service open to men, women and responsible
children. If you have questions, please ask an Usher at
any of the Masses or contact James McConnell,
Hospitality Ministry Chairman at [email protected].
Thank you for considering our ministry.

to command the sea, the wind, and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance,
for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
