September 24-Severe Storm Hit Port-Au-Prince,HaitiTent Cities Affected- Shoes Needed for theChildren

A short but severe storm with high winds andheavy rains hit Haiti's earthquake-devastatedcapital, Port-Au-Prince. No warnings wereissued because the storm Friday afternoonwas not predicted. The high winds destroyedtents and the rain has turned hillsides intomudslides.

Because of your generous donations LCC hasbeen able to provide thousands of childrenwith shoes to protect them from mud-related

parasites and diseases. This new storm means that additional shoes are needed for thechildren in the affected Tent Cities.

Please contribute now if you are moved to help! Thank youfor your compassion for these children.

Last month more shoes were distributed in tent cities in Jacmel and Leogane (below).Thank you for your continual support to help all these children and for showing themMercy and Compassion.

UPDATE: Winter Coats for Families in Need Request from Pastor Steve Kass, Family In Faith ChristianChurch, Glendale Heights

Thanks to your donations Family of Faith is a little overhalf way to their goal for winter coats to give away.Yesterday Don Summers came to pick up a few morecoats to add to the 115 they have collected so far.

Family In Faith Christian Church has a desperate need forwinter coats, hats, gloves and scarves to be given away tothe needy families that will be coming to our October 9,2010 Food Pantry.

The first winter that we had the mobile Food Pantry at ourchurch we realized that many of the children and adults standing in line in the belowfreezing temperatures did not have a warn coat and most did not have hats or gloves on.That next summer our congregation decided to collect these items to be given away atour fall Pantry along with food. This was so well received by these families that it warmedour own hearts.

This will be our fifth year to give away these items in the fall. Our congregation haveemptied our own closets of these items some time ago and now rely on members of ourchurch to buy these items at garage sales and resale shops to supply our growingdemand each fall as the amount of families coming to our Pantry has greatly increasedwith this recession.

If you would be able to donate winter coats, hats, gloves or scarves by October 4, 2010we would greatly appreciate them and would be glad to make an arrangement to pick

Looking for Ways to Share the Mercy andCompassion of Christ to Those in Your Churchand Community? We are in hard economic times. "Times are terrible"many say. But just think what a blessing God has givenus to share the Mercy and Compassion of Christ! Thedoor is wide open for the Church to be the Church.Jesus showed us by his life that we are to be thechurch that "Does Feet" (John 13).

People say that they would "do" evangelism, they wouldreach out to people in need, but their church simply does not have the money right nowto do it, things are tight! Dear Christian brothers and sisters, it doesn't take money totouch those in need and pain - it takes you and your willingness to follow Jesus'example.

If you would like a staff member of LCC to come out and share ways for you and yourchurch to reach your members and community with the Mercy and Compassion of Christ- without money - contact us at 866-455-6466 or [email protected] We would be more than happy to come andwork with you! By the way, we can even bring our K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs with us.This also will NOT cost you!

Several Immediate Ways to Help Our Churches inHaiti

Motorcycles Needed to Help Pastors in Haiti Spread theGospel

When Tim Hetzner traveled to Haiti in March 2010 hepurchased several motorcycles for the pastors to use fortransportation. Because of the terrible condition of theroads, motorcycles are the most efficient means oftransportation for many of the pastors who must travelmany miles between the different churches that they serveand to get to their members.

More motorcycles aredesperately needed. Anew motorcycle costs$1,000 and is animportant tool that helpsthe pastors to minister totheir members andspread the Gospelthroughout Haiti. Pictured are two pastors that have been helpedbecause of your support.

Job Needed for Concordia Seminary Student fromLiberiaRequest from Pastor Steve Kass, Family In Faith ChristianChurch, Glendale Heights

We are looking for help for a student in the Ethnic ImmigrantInstitute of Theology (EIIT) at Concordia Seminary. AugustusSoko is a refugee from Liberia, who is a member of Family InFaith in Glendale Heights being mentored through the EIITprogram. His goal once graduating is to plant churches inN'Zerekore, Guinea. This is a city of about 500,000, threatenedby the growth of Islam. Gus is uniquely qualified, being fluent inFrench and the tribal language Manu.

In August, Gus was laid off from his most recent job, and we areseeking new employment for him. Gus has a college degree, andcan provide a translated diploma. He has taught mathematics, isfluent in French, and is computer literate. A few years ago, Gus

had a great position, but unfortunately, this was eliminated when the Chicago Office shutdown and work shifted to Atlanta. One other challenge is the requirement of the EIITprogram to attend a one week seminar at the Concordia Campus once a year. This alsoled to his losing a job. One last challenge has been employment that has kept Gus fromworshiping regularly due to Sunday work hours. Gus most recently was a CNA (certifiedNursing Assistant) in a Nursing home.

If you know anyone who would consider employing Gus, we would be most grateful. Heis able to read and write in English and French, has taught Mathematics and French, hasdone basic bookkeeping and accounting, is computer literate, and is responsible. Gushas his Driver's License, and can provide work references. We are ideally looking for anemployer who has a heart for ministry, and would be able to employ Gus betweenMonday and Saturday, allowing him to worship on Sundays, and allowing him to go toSt. Louis for at least one week of the year. Of course, he would be happy to interview atany time. His salary requirements would only be commensurate with his responsibilities.

If any of you can help us in this situation, both Gus and Family In Faith would be veryappreciative. His job situation has adversely affected his performance in the EIITprogram, and his ability to provide for his family's needs.

Malaria Initiative`Malaria Initiative' is a non-profit corporation formed by Susan Busse M.D., ThomasHesselink M.D., and John Peterson, to bring spiritual and medical treatment to thosesuffering from Malaria, working with Lutheran Church Charities.

A treatment of acidified sodium chlorite at a cost of lessthan $00.01 USD. per dose has proven to be verypromising in preliminary laboratory and field trials. Wehave been working in Uganda, Sierria Leone, Ethiopia, and Ghana to improve our working relationship in thesecountries to further the treatment of Malaria using thisparticular treatment. Our goal is to spread the Messageof Christ and bring a useful and inexpensive treatmentfor Malaria; Malaria being the number one infectiouskiller world wide.

We are currently working at gathering more scientificdata from sites that have Malaria patients, to track themalong with their progress, and to document the results ofthe treatments so we can publish in medical journals. We are supporting a PhD. student doing thesis work atWestern Michigan University on this promising

treatment.

Malaria Initiative is looking to get help financing the above stated goals so they maytravel to train personnel and fulfill all our commitments. The three principals have takenno payment for their services, all have volunteered their services and funded much of thecosts out of pocket along with donations from generous donors.

LCC Emergency Assistance FundLCC gets requests daily concerning people who needassistance, and it is increasing because of the current economictimes we are living in.

LCC works through our churches to provide assistance bymaking the need known - and dollar per dollar we give themoney to a church to help the family or individual. However, wereceive some requests that are emergencies, and money isneeded that day or the next day and we can't always get theneed out in our weekly email newsletter first.

Would you consider making a gift to our LCC EmergencyAssistance fund so that when these emergency needs occur we can help (through ourchurches) quicker? This is an important way for the Body of Christ to share the Mercyand Compassion and Proclamation of Christ.
