Mary Queen Jubilee Fun Facts�

Did you know that in 1995, the priests in our
deanery met at Mary Queen and worked to
set up their calendars so that they could
assist each other with Penance Services for
Advent and Lent? “We would like to be able
to do this so that we can help each other out
and not have them running all on the same day and then
no one will have enough priests to conduct a service
without it being a long one,” said Fr. Tom Huhn, M.S.,
Parochial Vicar. �

called “Church Keepers.” This is a volunteer group who
helps us to keep our beautiful church clean and
presentable. This is “light” house (church) keeping like
dusting and cleaning surfaces of the sanctuary furnishings.
Just an hour a week every two weeks would be a beautiful

Jubilee Year Mass for the Homebound�
In honor of our 50
th
Jubilee, the Ministry of Care
celebrates Mass every month at a private home for
those who are unable to attend Sunday Mass On
Monday, September 16th, Father Sibi celebrated Mass
at the home of Antoinette Helton. Antoinette and her late
husband, Arch,are/were long�time parishioners and
have been unable to attend Mass for quite some time.
Antoinette’s daughter Debbie, her husband Henry and
their two children, who are also Mary Queen
parishioners, were in attendance, as well. What a
beautiful Mass we shared. Having been lifted in song
and prayer, Antoniette and Debbie welcomed the
Ministry of Care members to a lovely reception after
Mass, where Antoineette entertained us with stories of
her youth and her Catholic education. We are looking
forward to celebrating Mass at another Ministry of Care
home in October. �

FIRST STEPS � PARENTING COURSE�
Attention all parents, especially those pregnant or with
young children up to 4 years of age! Mary Queen is
hosting a parenting course on Saturdays from 7:00 �
8:30 PM in the Mini Hall starting on October 12th
focused on common issues parents face raising young
children.�

Topics will include: Character Building, Individualized
Attention, Love & Discipline,�Marriage Bond and Siblings.
This course, called First Steps, is offered through Texas
Family Enrichment, a program that has been running in
the Houston area for nearly 15 years.�

Family Enrichment helps us learn to resolve concrete
problems through the case study method. We examine
real cases to identify the facts and problems, and come
up with suggestion for solutions to those problems. This
method helps us learn valuable problem solving skills,
giving us a methodology to approach common situations.
You will find the opportunity to discuss issues that are of
relevance to you and your spouse, come up with concrete
action plans to apply to your own family, have animated
discussions, meet other couples and build
friendships!�

Letter to a Suffering Church �
Discussion Group�
Our parish has decided to read through the
‘Letter to a Suffering Church’ book
together, and as a follow up to this book
distribution we are hosting a Reflective
Small Group Gathering at Mary’s House on
Sunday, September 29th from 2:00 � 4:00 PM. It’s a
chance for you to dialogue with fellow parishioners, to
share your thoughts, questions, concerns, observations
and prayers about this important topic.�
SEAFARER BOXES In coordination with Bay Area
Deanery Council of Catholic Women, we will be collecting
items for the Seafarer’s coming into the Port of Houston.
We package and wrap the Christmas gifts and deliver
them to the port. This may be the only gift sailors get while
working at sea on Christmas.��

Items needed are: 2020 small calendars, address books,
fabric band�aids, combs, dental floss, deodorant,
disposable razors, shaving lotion, flashlights with batteries,
Kleenex, lip balm, lotion, nail clippers, Gold Bond Powder,
Gold Bond Cream, hot chocolate, Q�tips, needle & thread,
soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, tooth paste, gum, hard
candy, key chains, small notebooks, mechanical pencils,
pens, playing cards, popcorn, socks, sudoku, Texas
souvenirs, t�shirts, USB flash drives, word search books
and Christmas wrapping paper. Any of these items are
appreciated and may be dropped off in the collection

The second Wednesday of each month is Respect Life
Rosary and Mass. The Rosary begins at 6:00 PM and

There is a Respect Life Eucharistic Holy Hour on the
second Sunday of each month from 2:00 � 3:00 PM in the
St. Joseph Chapel. Every Friday morning at 10:00 AM we
meet in the church parking lot next to La Salette Hall to go
pray as witnesses for life at Planned Parenthood on I�45.

Mary Queen Church offers a support group,� Restore
Hope, to women who have had an abortion at any time
during their lives. This ministry seeks to help them heal,

Hospitality Ministry/Ushers �
We are fortunate to have a large and vibrant parish family
at Mary Queen. It takes several ministries and many
volunteers within each of those ministries to conduct each
Mass.�The Hospitality Ministry/Ushers are an integral part
of the Mass.� Each Mass has a team of Ushers � they
serve at all weekend Masses, as well as special Masses
throughout the year.�Mary Queen needs more volunteers
to serve our parish as Ushers at all the Masses.� If you
desire to join a ministry, but are unsure about which one �
prayerfully consider serving our parish as an Usher.�It is a
rewarding service open to men, women and responsible

Did you know the Creation Care Ministry has a charter
with a goal of 90% reduction of pollution from Mary
Queen operations? In five years of effort, pollution at
Mary Queen has been reduced by 25%. Multiple offers
have been made over the last four years to assist Mary
Queen leaders with long�term strategic planning and
budget decisions to reduce pollution from Mary Queen
operations by another 65%, thereby helping our
children's and grandchildren's futures. This effort is still in

Mary Queen Feast of St. Francis of
Assisi Celebration�
The Mary Queen Creation Care Ministry is
hosting the annual Feast of St. Francis of
Assisi celebration on Saturday morning,
October 12th, from 10:00 � 11:15 AM, on the
parish grounds behind the church.� This will
include some light refreshments, education
tables and the annual Blessing of the
Animals.�Bring your pet to be blessed!�

St. Francis is the Catholic Church patron saint of ecology,
and he stands as a constant reminder that we should all
be good stewards of the planet Earth, and preserve the
environment for future generations.� Come join us!� Per
tradition, we will have recycle bins for small electronics in

Nassau Bay Life Chain 2019�
The National Life Chain is the largest peaceful, prayerful,

The annual Blue Mass honoring all law enforcement,
criminal justice personnel, support staff and their families
