Welcome to a time of Sabbath, rest, and renewal
\September 3, 2017
Glade Matters
Shared moments of information and inspiration about our church family
Prelude “The Peace May Be Exchanged” Dan Locklair
*Processional Hymn “ Joyful, Joyful We Adore Y ou” #4
*Call to Worship
L: God remembers and visits us and restores us to the community of faith.
P: In our pain, suffering, and loss we know the assurance of God’s presence.
L: When we have opposition and hopeless situations, God bears us up on eagles’
wings.
P: In the loneliness of our firm idealism, God grants healing and
transformation.
L: Whatever we need as we gather to worship, a merciful and loving God meets us
here.
P: We assemble with high expectations that God has much good in store for us. L: The good gifts God bestows on us here are for reaching out to others.
P: We want to use our talents in the service of Jesus Christ.
Prayer of Invocation (Offered by all)
As we gather here, O God, we are mindful of your presence, and we marvel at
your handiwork. Night turns into day, and summer fades away. Fall begins to
show signs of wanting to arrive, and laborers continue to reap the bounty of
your earth. On this national holiday, as we recall the achievements workers
have made, we pray for those who do not have full employment and for those
who do, but who, also, cannot make the two ends meet. Inspire a new
generation of committed individuals who will not rest until all have what they
need, and no one is left behind. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Silent Prayer
Prayer
The Prayer Jesus taught Us
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
WE GIVE OURSELVES TO GOD’S WILL AND CARE

The Celebration of Communion
Video Invitation to the Table #EatTogether
Communion Prayer (Offered by All)
Generous God, as we gather at the table, you make yourself known to us in the
bread that is about to be broken. By your grace, we have been redeemed. As
Jesus gather his disciples together, we pray that your spirit would gather us in a
similar way. Help us to look at one another with the same, soft gaze Jesus looked
at those he encountered. When we feel anxious, come to us and quiet our restless-
ness. When we are uncertain about the future, speak a word of hope so that we
do not lose heart. May these elements sustain us in ways no other meal can. In
Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
Sanctus “Holy, Holy, Holy” #793
