Marana Athletic News

Athletes of the Week Cross Country, from Coach Atkins: Kyle Partin is the XC Athlete of the Week. He had an exceptional summer of training

and that hard work over the summer is paying off for him this season. He broke his previous Personal Record by over a

minute last Wednesday at the Mountain View XC Meet. Coach Bartz and I are excited to coach this hard working

sophomore the rest of the season and see what great accomplishments he will make.

Boys’ Golf, from Coach Moreno: I am nominating Sean Moreno. The past week Sean made the all tournament team at

the Fall Preview Invitational at Grand Canyon University golf course by finishing in the top ten. He also led the team to

its lowest score of the year by shooting 36 at the Pines in a dual match with Nogales and Rio Rico

Dance, from Coach Finley: Madison Tweedy has surpassed all expectations being our only freshman on Dance Team this

year. Not only is she one of the team's strongest technicians but she is an outstanding student and teammate. Madison is

determined to accomplish her goals but stays humble and shares her positive attitude with everyone. The future of MHS

Dance Team looks bright with Madison Tweedy's continued contributions on and off the dance floor.

Girls’ Golf, from Coach Corona: Lexi Pico- She has worked very hard to improve her golf game. She is a great example

of quiet leadership and has made connections with her teammates. The hard work paid off during her last match when she

shot the best score of her season and was the runner-up. Way to go Lexi!

Volleyball, from Coach Ball: Kaylee Moore is a Senior Right side hitter and team captain. She led the team in kills against

Tucson High and was instrumental in fighting back for the win on Wednesday night. She has taken great initiative in

unifying and building the program. We are looking forward to what she will do for the MHS women's volleyball team

this, her senior season.

Football, from Coach Litten: Zach Roberts had 2 touchdowns and 7 tackles in our win. He was the player of the

game. He showed great heart and determination and was one of the major reasons why we won the game.

Boys’ Swim, from Coach Condit: Lance Oldham was good at cheering for different swimmers from all around the pool.

At the meet, he never left the pool side, unless he was walking for his race or relay.

Girls’ Swim, from Coach Condit: Katrina Hernandez was awesome at cheering on her teammates from the end of the pool

as well as helping them out for counting in the longer races. Plus, if our racers would finish, she'd keep cheering on the

other teams’ swimmers!

At MHS we are very proud to offer a diverse array of CTE/JTED programs. The Integration of these programs

throughout our curriculum is just one of the many opportunities for students that our comprehensive high school

provides. Throughout the year we will be sharing glimpses into the programs with you.

Take a look at our Aviation Technology program…

It’s based on two curriculums: Aircraft Mechanics and Air Transportation.

The Aircraft Mechanics curriculum offers the student a basic introduction into the fascinating world of

Aircraft Technician (civilian / military), supported by content lessons but also hands-on lab experiences.

Air Transportation curriculum offers the student a basic introduction into the fascinating world behind the

scenes of: an airport, an airline company, support functions, federal aviation careers and what it would be

like to become an Aviator. Supported by content lessons but also hands-on lab experiences such as an airline

business simulation.

The program offers a wide variety of building blocks geared not only towards post-high school educational pathways

but also other career field opportunities. This is based on the fact that the fascinating world of Aviation is connected

to many other disciplines. Illustrative of this interconnectivity are some of the following examples:

How airplanes are built connects to ENGINEERING, How airplanes fly connects to SCIENCE, Distance, time and

speed airplanes travel connects to MATHEMATICS, Who regulates the industry is connected to the

GOVERNMENT, What airplanes cost is connected to ECONOMICS, Where airplanes land is connected to

SOCIAL STUDIES, Developments in Aviation is connected to HISTORY and Where airplanes fly to is connected

to GEORGRAPHY just to give you a few examples.

The Sky is the Limit!!!

PBIS Information

ROCKIN’ the PBIS

At Marana, we try to instill Tiger Pride in all students for their academics, athletics, artistic and technical abilities. But more importantly, we try to nurture and reward inspiring behaviors because each student is an individual while positive behaviors are very specific. Acknowledging the positive in our Tigers for their actions can create life long adjustments. Please help us and support our PBIS intiative by sharing kind words at home, and asking your students, “Tell me one positive thing that happened at school today.”
