PASTOR’S MESSAGE Welcome to worship this weekend. Our prayer is that during this service you will connect with God in Worship and the Word and also that you connect with your spiritual family, maybe even some you haven’t met yet. We are concluding a study in the Wednesday night Adults class about “e Power of Words.” Our central text has been Proverbs 18:21, where Solomon said, “e tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” We often refer to the power we have in other lives as we speak life into them with an encouraging word or compliment, or the power of death by a hurtful word or demeaning comment, but what do the words we speak do to our own self ? James 3:2-6 gives a couple of examples of how powerful words are to one’s life. “We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. e tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. ” e Bible speaks so much about what a person says and how it affects their life. So today, take a few minutes to think about the power of your words: the power of prayer, the power of self worth, and of course like a bridle or a rudder, the power to change your whole life. So be a perfect person and speak life in yourself today!
