Dear Ivy Family,
On some days it is hard to imagine a different
kind of world. On other days, it is not too very
difficult to imagine at all. Of all the created
beings that God made only humans are made in the image of God. As such,
only human beings have the gift of imagination. Our imagination is a direct
reflection of God’s image in us. With the simple use of imagination, we
can imagine everything from Heaven to Hell and anything in between.
Just as all aspects of our life have been touched and tainted by the power
and pervasiveness of sin, so have our imaginations experienced the ruinous
corruption that so easily flows through us all. One of the detrimental
consequences of our broken humanity is the reality that our imagination is
also broken. Another consequence is that our imagination loses its power to
inspire us to a new kind of life. Like muscles that atrophy through lack of
use, our ability to imagine can also atrophy through lack of use.
When God is up to something new, He often speaks to us through our
imagination. We begin to see things from a different perspective or in a
new light. Or perhaps, we even begin to see things that were not even there
before. Every great human advancement as well as every destructive act
happens first in the human imagination. Imagine what the world would
look like if our imaginations were fully yielded to the very God in who’s
image we are made. Imagine what our church would look like if our
imaginations were totally attuned to God.
The Fall preaching series is Reimagine. We will focus on select parables
and miracles of Jesus that challenge us to reimagine who we are and what
we do. These can be dangerous waters to navigate. Jesus often used
parables to reorder the way we think about God, life, and ourselves. Jesus’
miracles restored wholeness and healing to people’s lives. Jesus was in fact
crucified for daring to speak and act in ways that challenged the prevailing
religious establishment. His message of the Kingdom was an offense to
those who were so embedded in religion that they could not imagine the
new reality of which he spoke.
I am looking forward to hearing and seeing how God will seek to reorder
and restore who we are as a church family. As we prepare for the journey
ahead, may I challenge you to join me in opening our imagination to
whatever God says to us and to wherever He leads us. Let’s reimagine the
future together.
Blessings,
Brian
Ivy and Freedom Life Sustainment Team The Sustainment Team consists of members from Ivy and Freedom Life. They meet each month to discuss issues relative to the transition. Any issues that may emerge will first be addressed by the appropriate ministry teams of either or both churches. If not resolved or addressed at that level, the issues will be addressed by the Sustainment Team. The Ivy Sustainment Team members are: Ruth Thomas, Peggy Wolfley, Bill Willshire, and Brian Williams. Please feel free to contact
any of these members about any concerns or issues that will help advance the Kingdom of God through our partnership with Freedom Life. Notes of the monthly meetings are available from the church office.

On Sunday, September 15th we will be
celebrating the one year anniversary of Bryan
Gravely being called as Youth Coordinator. It
has been so awesome to see how God is using
Bryan in the lives of our students. Bryan took a
huge step of faith to follow God's calling and minister to our
youth here at Ivy and we are so thankful that he did. Over the past year our
students have experienced his amazing teaching on both Sunday and
Wednesdays. We have had several new decisions and re-dedications to
live full out for Christ and other relationships have grown deeper and
stronger. Bryan has been an amazing teacher, mentor and friend for our
youth. Please remember to keep him lifted in prayer as he continues to be
a blessing to us here at Ivy. When we hired Bryan we agreed that he would
be funded solely by donations. Please pray and if you feel led to contribute
to his work here at Ivy, please do so by designating a donation to the
"Youth Coordinator" account. We can't wait to see what this next year
holds!!

Announcing our re-invented
Children’s Choir Experience, C4
(Christian Community Children’s Choir)
I have seen for several years that there are many children whom God has gifted
in the areas of Singing and/or Drama but due to the size of their Church home,
family finances or location, do not have an outlet for using these gifts. This is
where C4 comes in. Formerly the Ivy Memorial Baptist Children’s choir, we
know that God is leading us to “officially” open the doors to our community
and see where He goes. For many years God has blessed us with children from
several other local churches that do not have a Children’s Choir program. We
are now updating our name to truly reflect who we are ….
A beautiful kaleidoscope of children made to praise their Lord!
Beginning Wednesday, September 11th
at 5:45 p.m. we will start weekly
rehearsals for our Christmas Musical:
“The Little Drummer Dude”.
Children (& parents) will be requested to make a
commitment to attend every weekly rehearsal possible
with the maximum number of children permitted to
participate set between 25 and 30. The musical will
require a minimum of 15 choir members.
At our first practice we will complete Choir Registration forms and watch a
pre-recorded performance of the musical to give the kids an opportunity to start
thinking ahead as to which parts they would like to audition. Each child will
also receive a listening CD of the musical.
Please be in prayer for me and our entire Team that we follow God’s direction
just like the Wise Men followed His star to find the King. We truly want to
seek and follow where God leads. I’m so excited to see where HE takes us
next!
