Re-enrollment information
As we look forward to the leaves changing color, the temperatures cooling off and
lots of sweatshirts around camp fires - we also look forward to the kickoff of our fall
re-enrollment period.
As the weather changes so will some of processes for enrollment into the 4-H pro-
gram for 2015. Our national database will be changing and starting this fall we will
be using 4-H online (https://www.4honline.com/). Here are some of the features that
we currently know about this program:
Enrollment will not begin until at least Oct. 1, 2014
4-H staff will work with leaders and families to ensure that everyone is re-
enrolled as quickly as possible once we are given the go ahead from campus to
start the process
Enrollments will primarily be done by the parent/guardian of the youth with
the assistance of 4-H staff and your community club leaders
We are encouraging everyone to use the online payment tools, but in the event
that isn’t an option you may also write a check to your community club and
they will write one check to MSU
Things that we know will remain the same:
Any youth 5 - 19 as of January 1, 2015 will be able to enroll in the program
Adults who would like to be a volunteer will need to go through the Volunteer
Selection Process prior to working with youth
Registration will still be $10.00 and $1.00 for insurance ($2.00 for horse par-
ticipants and leaders).
New members can join anytime during the year, but may not be able to meet
fair participation requirements if enrolled after April 1.

URBAN PROGRAM UPDATE
4-H Urban Programs continue meeting once a week at the Eastwood Community Garden and the Kala-
mazoo Peace House. Programming ended at the Northside Association for Community Development and the
CDF Freedom School sites in early August, as members began preparing for the school year ahead. We look
forward to continuing these programs with our urban partners again next summer!
Afterschool Spin Clubs resume September 3rd at the Kazoo School in the Vine Neighborhood. The 4-H
Chess club will run from Sept 3 through October 15. If you would like to run a 6-8 week program of your
own, please contact Evan Granito in the MSU Extension office.
On October 25th there will be a large “Urban Greenspace” installation project in downtown Kalamazoo,
in partnership with the urban 4-H program. We are currently vetting potential installation sites, and reaching
out to community organizations for donations and speakers. David Milarch will be our keynote speaker, and
he has generously donated over 30 Giant Sequoia champion trees to be planted by volunteers. We are also
looking for 4-H groups who would like to give their time to participate in this urban beautification initiative.
If you would like to get involved in either the planning or implementation of this project, please contact Evan
Granito at the MSU Extension office.
Other events like this are popping up all the time, so keep checking the 4-H facebook and website for
more updates!

FEEDER CALF PROJECT
Thank you for a fun fair! With the summer winding down and school schedules starting up, here are
a couple more dates to add to you calendar!
All 4Hers are invited to attend the following trip, but it will be limited to the first 32 people that sign
up and have a deposit of $50.00, to go on the trip by October 15. We will be taking the 4H bus to
Louisville KY to attend that North American International Livestock Expo (NAILE) on Friday Nov 7 at
4pm and coming home on Sunday, Nov 9. Animals that will be exhibiting that weekend are: dairy
goats, quarter horses, alpacas, llamas, dairy cows, and swine. Tentative cost is about $150.00 per
person- this includes hotel stay for two nights, a ticket into the Expo for one day, pizza Saturday
night, and an activity TBD. Other meals and spending $ not included in cost mentioned. *This trip is
counted as a meeting for the feeder calf and dairy clubs*
For those interested in participating in a pie fundraiser to help pay the way for the trip: You will
need to sell 15 pies by October 15 to cover the total cost of the trip explained in the trip de-
tails. Money and pie total sold is due to me by October 15 ( or make arrangements with me by
then). Date of making the pies is Saturday, Nov 1. **If you sell pies, plan on make pies on Novem-
ber 1.**
One other family fun event is the Winter Beef Show up at the MSU Pavilion December 5-7. Members
can bring their feeder calf projects from this year and show them at that show. Get in touch with
Mike Moreland if you are interested in exhibiting there. It is fun to just go up and watch too!
*Reminders* dairy feeder calves for 4H’ers need to be born between January 1 and February 28. If
you haven’t already, please join the Kalamazoo County 4H Feeder Calf Club on Face Book, it is a
great way to connect with other members of the club. Please call Greg (506-0456) or Sara (720-
7215) if you have any questions.
DAIRY PROJECT
Another successful fair is in the books! Great job to everyone! We will be heading to Madison WI for the
World Dairy Expo October 3-5. If there is anyone that would like to go with the dairy club, please let Sara
know by September 20 so that we can reserve rooms. If you haven’t already, please join the Kalamazoo
County 4H Dairy Club on Facebook, it is a great way to connect with other members of the club. Please call
