Michael Shapiro, Music Director REFLECTIONS By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. - Luke 1:78-79 I have a mantra I repeat to myself whenever I am feeling anxious or unsure about the future. The 14th century mystic Julian of Norwich wrote it. It goes like this: “All shall be well, all shall be well, all manner of things shall be well.” I have it on a plaque on my wall and wear it around my wrist on a bracelet. Like the quote from Luke, it points to the greater picture. One in which God is ultimately in control; a future where, ultimately, all things shall be well. The dawn from on high will indeed break upon us to give light to those who sit in darkness. Some may think this is “pie in the sky” optimism, and maybe it is. But, it reminds me when I am in situations over which I have no control, to trust God. This is an important reminder in a world that gives us the illusion that we have control over everything. As we begin the new “program” year at Palisades, I hope we can embrace this optimism, trusting God with the life of our community of faith. This does not mean we do nothing. It means that as we embrace new ministries we trust God in the midst of some of the unknowns. It means that we become intentional about our spiritual lives through regular attendance at worship, participation in adult education, mission activities and fellowship events. It means committing ourselves to the life of the church. You will be hearing more about our new ministry with Helping Hands in the coming months (http://www.helpinghandsofrockland.org/). It is a program that will deepen our relationship to those without a place to live in Rockland. Adult education and fellowship opportunities will also be made available. In the fall I will send out a survey getting input on the ways we can enhance our ministry by applying for a challenge to change grant from the presbytery. All are opportunities for growth; all opportunities for engaging the light that breaks forth for those who sit in darkness; all opportunities for making Julian’s proclamation a reality. Trusting God involves more than a little bit of foolish optimism. As Christians we join the foolish believers who follow Jesus trusting that by doing so our lives and the world can be transformed, witnessing to the world: All shall be well. Blessings, Angela Concert for Remembrance at Grace Church The annual Concert for Remembrance of 9/11 will be held Sunday, September 10, at 5:00 pm at the Grace Episcopal Church, 130 First Avenue, Nyack, NY. Sponsored by the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, the concert is given in memory of all the victims and heroes of the attacks against our country on September 11, 2001. This year, internationally renowned musicians and soloists from major New York Metropolitan area orchestras will perform as Edward Simons, 100, becomes the oldest active conductor in the world. By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. - Luke 1:78-79

I have a mantra I repeat to myself whenever I

am feeling anxious or unsure about the future.

Eagle Scout Project Scout Bobby Frost of Palisades converted a

muddy path to a walkway and built a platform wide enough and long enough to hold our garbage and recycling containers. Bobby planned the project with the church and got approval after submitting a written proposal and drawing. The materials were paid for through donations raised by Bobby. The project was completed to our great satisfaction on August 19, 2017. Bob Rasmussen, Operations Committee PPC.
