ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING RECENTLY
We need to revisit our decision regarding a
change of name in that, according to our con-
stitution, notice was not given of the proposal
to change our society name. Therefore, we
give notice that at our next meeting to be
held on Tuesday 1 September 2013 (club day)
we will discuss: That we change our name to KAPITI KEYBOARD AND ORGAN SOCIETY
KAPITI KEYBOARD & ORGAN SOCIETY ANNUAL GENERAL
MEETING
16 AUGUST, 2013
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
It is difficult to
appreciate that a year
has passed since I took
over from Olive, as president. Olive had achieved much over
the previous two years and I was fortunate to receive the
Presidency with the Club in good shape.
As with most Keyboard Societies in New Zealand, our
membership was declining, and the committee was consider-
ing ways and means of advertising for recruitment. Luck was
on our side when, in October, a reporter from the Kapiti Ob-
server (Joel Maxwell) contacted us for a report on the Clubs
activities.
The next edition of the Kapiti Observer included a half
page article and a photograph of Brian at the ARSO organ.
As a direct result of the “plug”, we had five enquiries and
subsequent visits to one of our meetings. Four of the five
signed up for membership! In November, in an endeav-
our to encourage some of our “non-players” to transfer to
“players”, we ran a basic tuition course. We had 8 members
for the Keyboards and 4 for the organ. Two “non-plyers”
are now regular “players”. My thanks to Bruce for his ma-
jor contribution in the keyboard tuition.
On Sunday, 30th June, this year, we had our annual “Open
Day” at the Memorial Hall and raised $350. for the Welling-
ton Free Ambulance Service. Attendance and our donation,
was somewhat down compared to last year, but those who
were there, were visibly entertained.
We were sorry to lose Andre and Helen Lavalle to Aus-
tralia, and Kath Edney to Dannevirke and on a sadder note,
the passing away of Gordon Wykes and Alan Wright. The
latter, not being able to attend our meetings for many years
and before my time, but at the time of his death in June, still a
“paid-up” member. Gordon will always be remembered as
“Mr Tyros”. His “passing” is a great loss to our Society.
As I close, I would like to thank the executive, commit-
tee and all members for thie support through the year. Espe-
cially, Jim and his helpers, for their kitchen duties. I believe
the Club to be in good shape, long may it continue for many
years to come. Malcolm Cooke
