Specialized Our specialty is the cognitive process—the
process of thinking and learning. Sounds
simple, but it’s not. There’s so much to
consider when thinking about thinking:
memory, attention, perception, problem-
solving, and mental imagery. These skills are
needed for comprehending, remembering,
and completing work efficiently and without
frustration.
Kids start off with the most basic thinking
skills and gradually work their way up to more
complex skills. The good news is that research has shown that these complex skills, which
are the ones needed for academic achievement, are more learned than innate. This means
that these skills may be improved through training and transferred to academic tasks! How
exciting for your child!
It’s also exciting for us because this is where our passion and expertise come into play. We can help a child who does not have the need-
ed skills to read a paragraph, grasp a math concept, or recall the main idea of a story. We can provide a child with specialized strategies
to gather the information, analyze it, and communicate it. We can make a child consciously aware of the best way to listen, visualize,
focus, attend, and remember. These new, efficient skills become automatic, and the old, counter-productive behaviors are phased out.
With these valuable skills strengthened, kids learn more productively and attitudes toward learning improve!
Individualized We are dedicated to improving the lives of children, and our strength is doing it one child at a time. When your child comes to Specialty
Tutoring, there won’t be any other kids in the session. It’s just your child, one-on-one, with the same Learning Specialist. This promotes
continuity, establishes rapport, and encourages maximum effort from each child. Plus, by giving positive and immediate feedback, and
making your child aware of progress, confidence can soar! Here’s how it works:
We begin with an initial evaluation at our learning center. Your child will meet one-
on-one with a test administrator to determine strengths and weaknesses in both
the targeted curriculum areas of your choice and the underlying cognitive learning
skills associated with those curriculum areas. A parent consultation is provided to
discuss the results.
Next, we prepare your child’s individualized program based on the initial evalua-
tion and your input. This unique plan allows us to focus all of the tutoring time di-
rectly on your child’s specific needs in order to have the most meaningful impact.
Targeted areas are modified as regular progress evaluations occur.
Finally, we will contact you to arrange a tutoring schedule. Sessions are offered
year-round. We require a minimum of two one-hour sessions per week and expect
consistent attendance. For those who qualify, financial assistance is available for
both the initial evaluation and tutoring sessions.
Visit our website at specialtytutoring.com for information regarding pricing,
targeted curriculum areas, and programs.
Reach out for something truly special. It will be worth it!
