GOD’S GIFT FOR GIVING
4th Sunday Ordinary Time $ 11, 023. 25 Last Year $ 8, 406. 00
Two weeks ago our area received a weathergift of 32" of snow, which required us tocancel all masses. This past weekend, wedid receive some envelopes for the 3rd Sun ofOT (Jan 23-24), but there were manyenvelopes/donations that we did not receive.
You know, as Pastor of OLM Parish Family, I do not like to askfor money. We are all going through financial difficulties withinour own families, and the same is true for our parish family.“Just Do It” is an ad campaign for the brand of Nike. As much asI dislike having to ask you for funds, it’s something as pastor Ineed to do for the well-being of our parish family, so I am askingyou to “Just Do It” for OLM. Next weekend, if you can, pleaseeither add your envelope from the weekend of Jan 23-24 or addto your regular envelope/donation, the amount of what youwould have given had the weather cooperated and we were ableto have our masses as usual. One significant way we can avoidsituations like this, is for you to sign up for our electronic givingprogram. (in the next couple of weeks we will be talking aboutthis more and I encourage you to start thinking about it now ifyou would like to participate in that program.)Here is something for you to think about as you decide if youcan help - remember when you are sitting in a pew at mass, someone before you paid for it, in a church that was funded bypeople you may not have even met. It’s humbling and areminder that you can have that kind of impact on people whowill follow you when they are sitting in that same pew. Myrequest is that you only give whatever you are comfortablegiving. For so many people, finances are something that theythink and worry about 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: and formyself, as pastor of OLM, it is no different. As a parish family,we need everyone‘s help. Whatever you can assist us with willbe gratefully appreciated. As pastor, on behalf of every memberof our parish family, I thank you for all that you do for OLMParish Family.
Love and Prayers....Fr. Sean
IN MEMORYThe flowers on the altar this weekend aregiven in loving memory of Patrick Russo atthe request of his wife Joyce and family.

LITURGY CORNERHere are a couple of interesting facts I found aboutthe celebration of Valentine’s Day: After New Year’sDay, it is the most celebrated holiday around the
world. St. Valentine’s Day began as a liturgical celebration ofone or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. The mostpopular martyrology associated with St. Valentine was that hewas imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who wereforbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians who werepersecuted under the Roman Empire; during his imprisonment,he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer Asterius.Legend states that before his execution he wrote “from yourValentine” as a farewell to her. Just a reminder it is also “WorldMarriage Day” and we will have a special blessing at the end ofeach of mass Have a blessed week! Lisa
FAITH AT HOMENext Sunday we celebrate Valentine’s Day. A dayassociated with romantic love, and a day wherepeople express their love for each other by givingflowers, candy and sending cards. Julie Hanlon
Rubio, an ethicist, wrote about the lack of inspiring culturalstories (movies, books, TV shows) about the depth that comesfrom commitment in marriage. “It’s all about romance andbeginnings,” she said. “We need to tell the stories of what alifelong commitment is like from the inside, so we can upholdthat. Who can know you well enough, and who can challengeyou also to be your better self? You can come back again andagain and keep trying to get it right. There is something aboutthe commitment holding you fast, to give you that time to workand deepen your relationship.” We shouldn’t have to wait forFeb 14th each year to tell someone that we love them! Compared to the amount of advice there is on how best toparent a child physically, emotionally, intellectually andspiritually, we really don’t see that much advice for thosecommitted to maintaining a good marriage. Much of theinitiative for marriage enrichment falls to couples themselves. Here are some to consider: 1. A regular date night (a friend ofmine who regularly goes out with her husband, says the bestpart of her week is when she is sitting alone in a restauranttalking to her husband) 2. An occasional weekend away torenew your acquaintance beyond discussions of children, scheduling, and money - the “roommates raising children”syndrome that can set in after a while. 3. There are excellentresources out there like: smartmarriages.com (they pitch theclasses as “drivers education for marriage”),marriagefriendlytherapists.com which can recommend amarriage counselor who is committed to keeping the marriagetogether. 4. And the basics: Pray for each other. Say “thanks”and “I love you” every day. Just think of what a wonderfulwitness it would be to your children. Happy Valentine’s Day! Enjoy your week! Lisa.
