    - System Requirements- Setting up Network Environment- Interactive Installation- Setting up PaperPort PSP service- Customized installation (advanced)- Installer command-line parameters- Trouble shooting tips

This Guide shows screen pictures made with Windows XP. The appearance may varyunder other Operating Systems.

System RequirementsTo install the software, your system has to meet the following requirements:

    - Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2, MicrosoftWindows 2003 Server SP2

    - Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0, 5.1, or 6.0 installed with "WorldWide Web Services" and "FTP services"

    - Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above- Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0- Web Services Enhancements 2.0 SP3 Runtime for Microsoft .NET

  • 4Installing PrerequisitesAvailability of system prerequisites:Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0, 5.1, or 6.0 is available from theWindows installation CDMicrosoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above; Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 isavailable from the Server CD or from Windows UpdateWeb Services Enhancements 2.0 is available from the product installation CD under thefolder [PREREQ\Microsoft WSE 2.0 SP3 Runtime.msi]

Install prerequisites as instructed by the components own documentation.

Notes:- Windows XP Home Edition is not supported, because Internet Information

Services is not a part of this operating system.

  • 5Pre-Installation Device Configuration

PaperPort PSP is built on top of HP Imaging and Printing Open eXtensibilityPlatform for Devices (OXPd:Workflow). This platform is formerly known asDXP, Device eXtensibility Platform; or DSC. This guide refers to the

technology as OXPd:Workflow, but the abbreviations DXP and SDC are also used, wherever necessary.

Before installing and using PaperPort PSP you need to make sure that OXPd:Workflow isinstalled on the device. This is included in the firmware of some HP devices (no separateinstallation is required.) Other devices do require the installation of OXPd:Workflow. Fordetails consult your device documentation.

    Setting up the Network Environment

To utilize the full functionality of the product, you have to identify a file server in yournetwork that is accessible via SMB (and optionally FTP) protocols. (This file servercan also be used as a PaperPort PSP server.)We recommend that you install the product to a server with a static IP address. Thefollowing description is based on such a scenario.

FTP access is not necessary in all cases: whether you need it or not depends onyour Administration Tool settings. SMB, however, is obligatory, sinceDesktopDeliveyPSP can only access the temporary media storage through this.

The configuration steps presented here describe only Windows and IIS based SMB andFTP process. If you are using the product on a different system, consult your productdistributor.

IP Addresses and Host NamesPaperPort PSP supports IP addresses as well as host names. In general, you are free to useeither for identifying the device, server, etc. However, there are cases when host namescannot be properly resolved (e.g. clients, the server, the device(s) are in differentworkgroups, etc). In such scenarios, only use IP addresses when

    - installing the server- accessing the Administration Tool- setting the repository parameters in the Administration Tool, or- specifying the PSP Server in DesktopDeliveryPSP.

Checking your IIS settings1. Open the IIS Administrator console: Click the Windows Start menu then choose

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services2. In the IIS administrator console select (local computer)/Web

    Sites/Default Web Site.

  • 63. Click the Action menu item and select Properties. The Default Web SiteProperties dialog window appears.

    4. Make sure that in the Web Site tab the IP Address is set to that of the productinstallation target server. (i.e. It is the same as the one in the Server Informationdialog (Host address field) of the product installer.)

Creating temporary storage for scanned media filesNote: Folder names and paths used in this text are only illustrations. You are free to makeyour own choices.Create the directory C:\temp\PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage in windowsexplorer. Scanned media files will be stored here until DesktopDeliveryPSP startsprocessing them.

Providing SMB access to Temporary StorageMake sure you first disable the folder option Simple file sharing (recommended) inFolder settings on Windows XP. (To learn more about advanced folder settings refer toyour operating system manual.) Without enabling advanced file sharing you will not seesome dialog boxes referenced in the following section.Note: the server file system must be NTFS.

  • 7To provide SMB access to Temporary Storage:

    1. Open Windows Explorer and browse to C:\temp\2. Select or create the folder [PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage]3. Click: File > Sharing and Security...4. In the Sharing pane of the Properties dialog box mark the Share this folder radio

buttonType in the following parameters:Share name: PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorageComment: Temporary media storage for Nuance PaperPort PSP Solution(The names given here are examples, and this guide uses them for reference.)

    5. Click the Permissions... button. The Permissions forPaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage dialog appears.

    6. Make sure that the Allow check box is marked at Full Control for the Everyoneuser group. Leaving access open to Everyone on the shared folder isrecommended to allow for easy administration and friendly user experience withthe solution. To raise the security level, administrators can choose to followadditional steps in order to limit access to the shared folder root. These steps aredetailed later in the Increasing Security for the Shared Folder chapter in thisguide.

  • 87. Click OK to close this dialog.8. Select the Security pane.9. Click the Add... button.10. Enter Everyone and click OK to close add wizard.11. Select the Everyone item in Group or user names list box.12. Below the list box click the Full Control Allow checkbox.

  • 913. Click OK. You have finished setting up SMB access to the folder[PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage].

Enabling the "Everyone" group to access the directoryC:\temp\PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage with full control is necessary becauseproduct users may belong to different domains, and they will all have to create and deletescanned media below this folder.

Increasing Security for the Shared FolderLeaving access open to Everyone on the shared root folder is recommended to allow foreasy administration and friendly user experience with the solution: DesktopDeliveryPSPclients can automatically register themselves on the PaperPort PSP server when users arerunning the Personalized MFP Scanning Wizard.

DesktopDeliveryPSP runs using the identity of the logged-in user and needs to gainproper access to the users subfolder in the shared area used for Personalized MFPScanning. After the users subfolders are created and the proper per-user permissions areset on them, administrators can limit access to the shared folder root. The onlyrequirement is that the group Everyone has to have List Folder Contents permissiongranted for this root folder.

  • 10

The suggested approach to increased security is as follows:1. Set up the server component as described in this guide, with full access to

Everyone on the shared root folder.2. Create the users subfolders3. Set the proper per-user permissions for the users subfolders4. Limit the access to the shared root folder.

Creating the users subfoldersAdministrators can create users subfolders manually or using a script. Each subfoldermust follow the - format.

Users subfolders are auto-created by the Administration Tool when users are added tothe PSP Server. See the corresponding chapter in this guide for the details on how to addusers.

Clients can automatically create their own subfolders by running the Personalized MFPScanning Wizard of DesktopDeliveryPSP on the client machines.

Setting the proper per-user permissionsEach subfolder must have permissions set so that the given user couldread/write/list/modify folder contents. For instance, the user SOMEDOMAIN\someusermust have full access permissions set in the security tab for theSOMEDOMAIN-someuser subfolder.

Administrators must also choose an appropriately secure method for allowing the MFP towrite to each users subfolder. The device account specified under the Repository tab inthe Administration Tool is used by the device to store the scanned documents in theusers folders. This account has to have write access to all of the users subfolders.

Using a hidden shareIt is also good practice to create the shared root folder as a hidden share. To learn moreabout hidden shares, consult this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314984/

Checking SMB access1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to \\\PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage. Your shared folder is accessed viaSMB.

    2. Create a new folder (name it Test).

  • 11

    3. Copy a file into this directory.4. Make sure you do not get any error messages.5. Delete the Test folder.6. Choose another computer in your network and navigate to \\\PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage7. Create a new folder (name it Test).8. Copy a file into this directory.9. Make sure you do not get any error messages.10. Delete the Test folder.

Your SMB configuration is now complete. To set up FTP access as well, proceed as follows:

Creating an FTP folder1. Open the IIS Administrator console: Click the Windows Start menu then choose

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services2. In the Administrator console, select and choose FTP Sites.3. Select: "Default FTP site". (At this point you may choose to create a new FTP site

for Nuance product services or to use an already existing one.)4. Click Action > New > Virtual Directory...

  • 12

    5. The Virtual Directory Wizard appears. Set up your virtual directory with thefollowing parameters:

    - alias: PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage- directory: C:\temp\PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage- permissions for this directory: read and write checked.

    6. Click Finish to complete the wizard.

  • 13

Checking FTP access1. Open Explorer and type: ftp://:/PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage/ Your file server is accessed via FTP inyour browser.

    2. Create a new folder (name it Test).

    3. Copy a file into this directory.4. Make sure you do not get any error messages.5. Delete the Test folder.6. Close your browser.7. Choose another computer in your network and browse to

ftp://:\PaperPortPSPTemporaryStorage8. Create a new folder (name it Test).9. Copy a file into this directory.10. Make sure you do not get any error messages.11. Delete the Test folder.

All examples are illustrations only and have to be replaced with your own environmentsettings.

Installing the PaperPort PSP configuration file on a device

The PaperPort PSP configuration file interpreted and used by the device isDDPSP.xml. It is accessible through the DDPSP/UI virtual folder of the PaperPort PSPserver using the following URL:

http:///DDPSP/UI/ddpsp.xml(For instance if the server is installed at the IP Address 10.140.1.1, the configuration fileURL is http://10.140.1.1/DDPSP/UI/ddpsp.xml)

This file describes the location of the PaperPort PSP server and how the device shouldcommunicate with it. The device has to have access to this XML file so that thePaperPort PSP service can be offered on the device panel.

There are two different ways to configure how the device accesses this file:1. Push method: the file is uploaded directly to the device2. Pull method: the device is set up to poll the configuration file

This guide describes the pull method only, but you are also free the use the push methodif it suits the working environment better.

If you use the push method, the configuration xml file (located in the UI sub-folder of theserver installation folder: by default, this is c:\Program Files\Nuance\PaperPort PSP\UI)needs to be accessible directly through the server computer's file system.

This guide describes browser-based installation steps that is, when you communicatedirectly with the devices embedded web server. In case you use different tools for device and configuration file management (for instanceWeb Jetadmin) consult the documentation of your chosen tool.

Installing through the device's embedded WEB server1. Launch your browser and enter the IP Address of the device (e.g.

    http://10.140.24.30)

  • 17

    2. Log In to the device, using the device administrator's credentials3. Select the "Digital Sending" tab at the top4. Select the "OXPd:Workflow" or the "SDC" item from the left menu5. Find an empty slot in the URL Polling Service section6. Enter the URL of the PaperPort PSP configuration XML file (e.g.

http://10.140.1.1/DDPSP/UI/ddpsp.xml)7. Click on "Apply URL Polling Service Settings"8. Click on the "Force Update Now" button at the bottom in the Force Update

    section

The appearance of the above page may slightly differ depending on the deviceand the firmware version installed.

We recommend that you check the device log after a forced update. Use the remoteHTTP interface with the GetLog command (http://10.140.24.30/hp/device/sdc?GetLog)to acquire the device log and examine the last few log lines.

    Log Examples:For a successful configuration file installation[INFO] Loaded configuration: http:// 10.140.24.30/DDPSP/UI/ddpsp.xml

Steps to launch the Administration Tool

    Launch the Administration tool

    1. Choose Start Menu > (All) Programs > Nuance > PaperPort PSP > DD PSPAdministration Tool or type the Administration Tool URL(http://10.140.1.1/DDPSP/admin) into a browser. If IIS is not permitted to serve dynamic content, you may get HTTP Error 404 -File or Directory not found on Windows 2003 Servers. For guidelines on how toresolve this problem, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315122.

    2. Depending on your network security settings, an authentication dialog maydisplay. Log in as an administrator (the administration task involves modificationof local files).

    3. Select your UI language from the following: English, French, Italian, German,Portuguese or Spanish.

    Using the Administration Tool

In the following section, we present a typical use case of this tool for systemadministrators. This is only a working example to walk you through the steps most commonly used.Your actual administration activity is likely to differ from the one you find here.

    Example Scenario

Suppose that the company purchases or rents one or more devices. A single device isusually enough for small and medium size businesses, while larger organizations mightneed several more devices.

The device(s) are delivered and set up by an external expert with the help of thecompanys IT expert. This way, the IT professional will know the IP address andadministrator login information.

Optional software components for instance, the current package are installed and thenetwork infrastructure is created. The PaperPort PSP administrator role is assigned to aperson with sufficient knowledge and experience (can be the same IT professional).

  • Administration Steps

    Setting the device working folder

The next step is to set the working folder of the device. This is where images willtemporarily be stored.

However, the Administration Tool gives you the optionto do this.To change the file transfer location and protocol1. Click the Repository tab (at the top).2. Change the protocol and other information.3. Click the Store Settings button.

    User management

Administrators are usually not required to manage user lists, because clients are able toautomatically register themselves and use the system without any administratorinteraction. On the other hand, we provide an administration tool to add/remove users to/from thesystem.

To add users1. Click the Users tab (at the top)2. The User Management page is displayed with the list of already registered (manually

    Customized installation (advanced)

Customized installation is recommended for advanced administrators. To install theproduct this way, follow the steps below.

IMPORTANT: It is an imperative that all prerequisites are already installed before youperform the following steps.

Extract product files to a specific folderUse the following command line to extract application files to a dedicated folder:msiexec.exe /i "PaperPort PSP.msi" /IIS=0

    SERVERIPADDRESS="???.???.???.???:??" INSTALLDIR="?:\????"

Installer command-line parametersIIS Interaction with IIS.

IIS=0: Extract into a specific folder and donot interact with IIS.IIS=1: Extract into a specific folder andinteract with IIS to register the virtual folders.

SERVERIPADDRESS You need to specify the IP address of thecomputer and a port number.

INSTALLDIR C:\Program Files\Nuance\PaperPort PSP(Destination folder for product files)

PREREQ_IIS_INSTALLEDONPORT80 Interactive installation may fail with thefollowing error Check if your IIS isconfigured to listen at port 80. To install theapplication without this check refer to the

  • 25

Server Administrator's Guide. Installation willnow abort. Use this command line parameterto disable the check.

If SERVERIPADDRESS is specified, the appropriate files will be replaced with the onescontaining the specified IP address. Otherwise, you have to modify some files manuallyafter installation: these are listed in the next section. If you do not specify a server IPaddress and port number, the name of your computer will be used by default.

When PREREQ_IIS_INSTALLEDONPORT80=2 is specified, the IIS settings are notchecked and the Check if your IIS is configured to listen at port 80. installer errormessage is suppressed.

It is also a good practice to turn on installer logging and to check the log file afterinstallation. We suggest consulting the Windows Installer documentation on the lvx* command line parameter and its usage.
