RCLP's First 'Yap Yap'by Patrick Evelyn

Internationally they 'Blog', in Jamaica we probably 'Yap Yap' and so I have been asked to kick off our new feature and wondering what could I yap about that would keep our members from not only becoming bored but spark some form of interest so they will struggle to the end.

One solution was to rant on regardless of corns being smashed and if anybody vex I would beg Prez. T and/or Christy to step in, but some of the things I will not talk about are: I will not talk about: (and this being relevant as our Rotaract club has asked us to have someone present at their membership drive "What It means to be a Rotarian/Rotaractor'). My invitation to rotary was from a PP of Kingston. Having described the age and mood of the Club and looking at my expression swiftly volunteered that they were in fact in the early stages of forming, what was hoped, a vibrant new club. However what was almost a turn off for me as he rambled on to mention how his business had benefited with his association with Rotarians and how solid his network had become. It was more than a year later the business foundation of Rotary was explained in more detail...but I will not talk on that. I will not talk about: Danielle's success in her exams and that my competitive spirit does not allow me to fully embrace her achievement, the fact that she got a 2 in I.T., and this is purely on the basis that I expect and deeply want the best for her, given her potential, and more than I could and will ever achieve. However to her I do not convey these feelings but in all that she does all I request of her is that she gives it her best shot and where the chips fall, bwoy a so it go! .....but I will not talk on that. I will not talk about: The family business Roberts Products, having started the year I was born and I was known in my early years as the Ackee Kid, rose to being in the mid nineties a company easily of a size able to be listed on the JSE. A few years ago the business lost approx half it's sales to large distributors that were bought out by new owners and shifted production to one of their subsidiary manufacturers. Other major factors over these years have played out seeing us in our darkest period..BUT..the race is not for etc..SO as the bible describes shifting fortunes as God smiles on you with grace & blessing when things are about to happen that they happen 'Suddenly', well, a lot that we have sat down and grinded out over these long months/years has happened in the last 2 weeks so as to set things firmly in place as they unfold in the next few weeks...but I will not talk about that. I will not talk about: Apart from Agro-Processing my business passion is Property Development and after launching Silversun Manor a few years ago we are finally very close to signing off on the purchase of a property not far from Eden Gardens with most of the investment funds committed but for an approx $5M gap. The return being offered on the $5M or increments thereof is 100% in 18 months. Check me for details..but I will not talk about that. I will talk on sports and sex and as far as sex is concerned I believe a woman's ... Oops, Word Count has indicated over 580 words...so next time.

Membership Resourcesby Christy Almeida

How to Propose A New Member

M embership is every Rotarian's responsibility.

Each new member must be proposed for

membership by an active member of the club.

If you know someone who has all the qualities

of a good Rotarian and you're an active

member of a Rotary club, consider proposing

that person for membership.

If you know someone who doesn't live in your community but would make a great Rotarian, complete the referral form (PDF or online). The person's contact information will be forwarded to the appropriate district leadership for consideration. If you're a current Rotarian who's moving to a new community, complete the relocation form (PDF or online), and your information will be forwarded to the appropriate district leaders.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green Addresses Rotary Club of New Kingston

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Criminal Investigation Branch) Les Green will speak to the Rotary Club of New Kingston on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 8:00am, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

ACP Green who is responsible for all major crime investigations island wide, has served in a variety of posts, as a career detective investigating serious and organised crime, leading investigations and operations targeting major and organised criminal networks. Since 2006, he has been involved in developing new investigative strategies and undertaking high profile criminal investigations in Jamaica and overseas.

ACP Green’s presentation will address how the Jamaica Constabulary Force plans to deal with the growing crime rate without the excessive use of force by its members, in light of the poor public image. How to Propose A New Member

M embership is every Rotarian's responsibility.

Each new member must be proposed for

membership by an active member of the club.

member of a Rotary club, consider proposing

that person for membership.

Rotary International focuses on Membership and Extension during the month of August, and as such, the Rotary Club of New Kingston seeks to highlight the impact of public perception on the ability to serve effectively.
