MANUAL ULTRASONIC TESTING (MUT)

Single- and multi-probe MUT is ideal for wall thickness

checks and is also used to test for laminations in pipe ends,

crack detection, and weld defect inspection. Handheld PA

systems enable corrosion mapping of components, and

they also provide advanced weld inspection capabilities.

MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION (MPI)

MPI is used on cut and beveled pipe ends before welding

to make sure there are no parent material flaws. MPI is

also used to detect surface cracks after grinding or

machining operations.

PENETRANT TESTING (PT)

A highly effective surface analysis technique, PT is used

to detect cracks and other surface breaking flaws.

AUTOMATED ULTRASONIC TESTING (AUT)

AUT of welds is accomplished by the mechanization of a portable scanner populated with ultrasonic probes and a sophisticated

data acquisition system. AUT is widely recognized as the most accurate method of detecting and sizing weld flaws in high-

production environments.

STANLEY Inspection provides AUT weld inspection services using production-proven hardware and certified operators.

Time of Flight Diffraction (ToFD)

ToFD is ideal for weld procedure development. ToFD setup

is very fast and can be done without building a calibration

standard when a quick clean/dirty weld determination is

needed. ToFD is very helpful when multiple weld bevels

need to be evaluated or other parameters are changing

during procedure development. ToFD is also an excellent

supplement to full-coverage pulse-echo weld inspection,

as it can save welds being repaired that might otherwise

be rejected due to misalignment and geometry indications.

Complete Weld Inspection

Pulse-echo ultrasonic inspection techniques using

Phased Array (PA) probes coupled with ToFD inspection

provides very accurate weld flaw measurements. Welds

are typically divided into zones (zonal discrimination)

that are evaluated individually, with the results being

reassembled into a comprehensive weld analysis.

STANLEY Inspection takes this a step further and adds

linear and sectorial scanning to provide superior

weld examination.

Time of Flight Diffraction (ToFD) inspection is easy to set up

and serves to speed up weld procedure development.
