P The Day of Pentecost is here! God's children have gathered in this place: C We are transformed into God's family by God's Spirit joining with ours. P Come, Breath of God, and overturn our conventional lives: C Come, Holy Spirit!

WELCOME In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS P We are baptized as individuals, yet called to live and serve together.

We know, and need to confess, how we have sought to live for our-selves, not reaching out to others, and seeing them as parts of Christ's Body. Let us confess together:

C Rock of our salvation, we know the faults try to hide from you and others. We have not cared for all people in the same way. We do think some are more gifted, or better, or prettier. We are more willing to rejoice with someone, than to suffer with another. We are not sure the prisoners should be set free, or the poor given hope.

Redeemer of all people, forgive us. Anoint us with your Spirit's power so our eyes might be opened and our ears freed to hear and to know Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who is your love and grace for our lives.

P God's Spirit is upon us: the Spirit of forgiveness, the Spirit of grace, the Spirit of oneness. Today, and in all the days to come, God's Spirit is with us, and by the power of the spirit in Jesus Christ ☩ our Lord, your sins are forgiven. Thanks be to the One who is our joy and our strength.

PRAYER OF THE DAY P Spirit of fire, C though your living Word, you have made us new, and your holy

presence burns bright within this world. Activate the gifts within us, spread your spirit throughout our communities, and make our hearts burn with love and hope. Amen.

READING P A Reading from 1 Corinthians 12:1-13

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says "Let Jesus be cursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

THE APOSTLES' CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Praise and thanks to you, holy God, for by your Word you made all things: you spoke light into darkness, called forth beauty from chaos, and brought life into being. For your Word of life, O God, C we give you thanks and praise.

P By your Word you called your people Israel to tell of your wonderful gifts: freedom from captivity, water on the desert journey, a pathway home from exile, wisdom for life with you. For your Word of life, O God, C we give you thanks and praise.

P Through Jesus, your Word made flesh, you speak to us and call us to witness: forgiveness through the cross, life to those entombed by death, the way of your self-giving love. For your Word of life, O God, C we give you thanks and praise.

P Send your Spirit of truth, O God; rekindle your gifts within us: renew our faith, increase our hope, and deepen our love, for the sake of a world in need. Faithful to your Word, O God, draw near to all who call on you; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory forever. C Amen.
