SGS MINERALS SERVICES – T3 SGS 533 10-2013

As an independent, leading supplier of technology, SGS is uniquely positioned to partner with you to improve your efficiencies and enhance your profitability. We know the importance of verifiable consistency in coal quality, whether you are a supplier or consumer.

An SGS On-Line Analyzer (OLA) system and quality assurance program complements any Mechanical Sampling System (MSS). An OLA system allows for real time analysis of samples collected by your MSS and provides instant coal quality feedback to an operator, enabling you to blend your coal to meet specifications.

All SGS work is done in accordance with internationally accepted standards such as ASTM, EPA, ISO and JIS. We are dedicated to providing you with value-added solutions that reduce risk, enhance value and maximize returns all the way through extraction, transportation, inspection and blending to industrial use and emissions control. Our reputation depends on your complete satisfaction.

SGS delivers a broad spectrum of independent evaluation services to coal producers and power generators worldwide. Our team of professionals can provide you with expertise in:

• Mechanical Sampling Systems • On-Line Analyzer systems • Sorting and blending • Laboratory services • Environmental services • Stack emissions control • Trade and stockpile services

MECHANICAL SAMPLING SYSTEMS

Risk associated with inaccurate evaluation of coal can be managed by selecting the proper Mechanical Sampling System (MSS).

A good MSS:

• Provides accurate probability sampling

• Captures random samples across the full stream of coal

• Does not reject particles based on

size • Moves at a speed that does not

reject top size materials

MECHANICAL SAMPLING SYSTEM DESIGN

To design an effective Mechanical Sampling System, detailed information about the location of the MSS and the material to be sampled is needed, including:

• Top size • Surface moisture content • Material handling characteristics of

the feed

To ensure your Mechanical Sampling System design meets the criteria defined by ASTM, ISO or other global standards, a site visit is often required. SGS will use tried and proven designs with any necessary modifications for each new application. Through this process, we provide the best and most cost effective solution for your sampling needs.

SGS has over 25 years experience in the design, supply, installation and commissioning of client-dedicated, site-specific MSS, with more than 300 SGS-designed systems operating in over 20 countries worldwide.

SGS‘ OPERATIONAL QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM

SGS will maintain a quality assurance program for your Mechanical Sampling Systems in accordance with international standards. This program includes:

• Inspection • Bias testing • Collection and analysis of samples • Modification of an existing

Mechanical Sampling System to improve performance and eliminate bias

• Technical advice and troubleshooting

ON-LINE ANALYZER SYSTEMS

SGS is a global leader in the field of On-Line Analyzer (OLA) systems, providing complete design, installation and support services for your new or existing OLA system. An OLA system will provide you with real time analysis that allows you to monitor, control, optomize and modify your processing as needed. This ensures increased profitability and accurate analyses during trade and operation, resulting in a fair price for each party.

You will benefit from properly blended coal that meets required specifications that are controlled by an SGS designed On-Line Analyzer system. This system allows you to:

• Ensure consistent blending of coal to meet required specifications resulting in maximum operational efficiency.

• Ensure complience with environmental regulations including SO2 and particle emission legislation.

• Control and possibly eliminate maintenance arising due to slagging and fouling problems. This results in a reduction of forced outages and derates.

• Operate close to your design capacity without an increased risk of power fluctuations and pollutant surges.

SGS is unrivaled when designing and supporting OLA systems for the coal industry. Once designed, our technical experts can install, commission, and calibrate your OLA system in accordance with globally recognized standards. Experienced SGS personnel using a continuous surveillance program can then provide ongoing support for your OLA system, including on-site inspections, efficiency audits and recommendations for enhancements and improvements.

SORTING AND BLENDING

Traditionally, coal producers use On-Line Analyzers to meet tight product specifications, especially for sulfur. However, given the ability of On-Line Analyzer systems to sort coal consistently and accurately based on multiple quality factors (sulphur, ash, moisture, etc.), there are many opportunities for power generators and port authorities to also realize value from these systems.

Sorting based on quality allows you to:

• Bypass the preparations plant for raw coal that meets shipping specifications, resulting in a more efficient and profitable operation.

• Ensure coal quality for market by specification.

• Reliably blend various coal qualities.

The ability to reliably blend various coal qualities allows you to:

• Blend lower cost, poorer quality coals with more expensive, high quality coals to meet contract specifications exactly.

• Market your coal more easily since you can easily generate consistent quality product.

• Avoid rejected loads and quality penalties.

INSPECTION AND SAMPLING SERVICES

SGS provides inspection and sampling services for coal and coke at most ports and major inland trans-shipment points. These services include:

• Weight certification • Sampling • Chemical and quality analysis • MSS design and maintenace • OLA design and maintanance

Whether you are selling, buying or transporting coal or coke, SGS is ready to assist and independently verify shipment weight and quality.
