Centacare Townsville has been working with people across
North Queensland since 1979. Last year, we assisted over
12,000 people with support, education and counselling. We
provide a range of programs to assist individuals, families
and communities. Our 160 staff operate out of ten sites
across North Queensland and the Gulf Country with outreach
to a further eight towns in the region.
Centacare Townsville is an organisation with a strong
inclusive community focus. We are committed to improving
the wellbeing of the many communities in which we work.

Bridge Program
BRIDGE is an early intervention program that aims to enhance family
dynamics and promote healthy relationships. BRIDGE also aims to
empower families to develop the skills to manage emotional and
behavioural concerns.

Circle of Life Program
The Circle of Life program (COL) is a holistic counseling, education and
support service which assists individuals, couples and families to work
through their pregnancy related concerns. The program looks to
address the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual wellbeing
of individual women, their partners and their families.

Cloncurry Community Support Service Provides a generalist coordination, support, advice and referral service.
Community support provided by the service includes a balanced mix of
quality programs, and activities that builds skills, provides knowledge,
promotes personal and social development, promotes physical well being,
and creates and sustains local networks

Gambling Help Delivers a range of intervention and support for individuals who have
a gambling problem and also supports individuals and/or families
affected by those with problem gambling. The program also provides
responsible gambling education and resources to schools, community
organisations, service groups, health care services and gaming
venues, with emphasis on harm minimisation approaches.

ROSA Program The focus of ROSA is on working with children and young people to
build on their strengths and create solutions to ensure their safety
and emotional well-being. ROSA works to assist in the healing from
the impact of abuse or neglect on children.

Family and Relationship Services
Counselling
Provides relationship counselling to individuals, couples and families
around issues that can impact on a family and relationship. Issues this
service supports people with include: relationship or family enhancement,
family formation, separation/divorce, parenting issues, conflict & anger,
communication, intimacy, loss and grief and childhood issues impacting
on current relationships.
Costs
Combined annual income $0—$25000 $35 per session
Combined annual income $25001—$50000 $35 per session
Combined annual income $50001—$110000 $55 per session
Combined annual income of $110001 and above $75 per session
For concession card holders or if you are unable to pay the full fee, a
reduced fee can be negotiated with the counsellor at your first session.

Pathways
The Pathways program provides a comprehensive service aimed at
maximizing success rates, not just minimizing problems. Pathways
promotes a culture in which students, parents and the school become
partners in finding lasting solutions. Using a collaborative approach,
Pathways brings to the school environment a broad based integrated
service that is intensive, comprehensive and flexible so that children
and families can get the help they need.

ACCESS
Employee Assistance Program
Provides a number of services including Short Term Counselling, Critical
Incident Response, Training & Workshops, Dispute Resolution Services,
Supervision & Professional Support. This Service is provided by employers
to employees.
Costs
Services available to employees are dependent upon
individual organisation’s contracts
Referral Process
Programs do require the person wishing to use the service
to be the one to make the appointment. With some
contacts supervisors may make referrals for employees to
access counselling.

Family Intervention Service
The Family Intervention Service works with families where the
Department of Communities, Child Safety are having ongoing
involvement and where the plan is for children to return to the family
or to remain safely in the home with support.

Communities for Children
This is an initiative from the Stronger Families and Community
Strategy funded by FaHCSIA. This initiative envisions that the Mt Isa
community is a place where all children have the opportunity to reach
their full potential. It involves playgroups in the park and developing a
culture of education for Aboriginal children and parents.

Homelessness The service works intensively with families and individuals through
support, information, referral and advice to maintain stable and
suitable accommodation in Mt Isa. The services is also able to offer
limited assistance with crisis accommodation. The Homelessness
service is suitable for families and individuals who are at risk of
becoming homeless in Mt Isa.

HIPPY The Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) is
a two-year home-based parenting and early childhood enrichment
program targeting families with young children. Families start HIPPY
when their child is in the year before school (usually around 4 years
old) and continue into the second year of HIPPY during their first
year of formal schooling. The HIPPY approach develops the founda-
tions for learning in the home during children’s crucial early years.
HIPPY fosters social inclusion, contributes to successful school partici-
pation and offers parents, a supported pathway to employment and
local level community leadership.

StandBy Response Service
The StandBy Response Service is a community based program that
provides a 24 hour coordinated response to assist families, friends,
associates and witnesses who have been bereaved through suicide.
The program offers support regardless of when or where the suicide
occurred by being a central point of contact linking people with the
right support at the time of greatest need.

Baby Bridges
Baby Bridges is a unique and innovative respite/therapy/playgroup
program that will provide an opportunity for respite, and also a learning
environment for both parents and carers, and their children. It aims to

Offers the opportunity for individuals with a disability to experience

Volunteer Host Program
Provides respite and support to families of children with a disability aged
between 0-12 years. The program recruits volunteers who are matched
to a child with a disability and they care for the child in the volunteers
own home and spends time with them on a regular basis, for example:
one day/weekend per month.

Family Relationship Centre
The Family Relationship Centre is funded by the Commonwealth
Government to support families. The Centre was established as part
of the identified importance of family relationships for children’s
development and well-being. The Centre assists families by providing
Family Dispute Resolution for families who are wanting to discuss
parenting arrangements.

Regional Family Dispute Resolution
What will it cost?
FDR can be quicker and cheaper than going to court
or paying legal fees. FDR services may charge fees
according to your financial circumstances. You should
let the FDR service know if you are on a low income or
experiencing financial difficulties.

Education and Life Skills Program
Aims to enhance individual quality of life and strengthen family
relationships. We offer a number of courses on enhancing personal,
interpersonal and parenting skills, and address specialized relationship
issues such as men and family relationships, and families dealing with
high levels of conflict. Courses for different age-groups are also available
and focus on building self-esteem, emotional self-regulation strategies,
and personal safety.

Marriage Preparation
Assists people at all stages of relationships, in forming a lasting tie to
another person. Courses are available for couples preparing for
marriage and also marriage enrichment.
