Founded in 1959, K. Hovnanian Homes is one of the nation’s top home builders and the largestbuilder in New Jersey, helping over 150,000 families enjoy new homes, and employing nearly3,500 workers across the United States. Locally,K. In December 2006, K. Hovnanian onceagain demonstrated its commitment to the community by donating $125,000 to thePalisades Medical Center Foundation. “Our goal is to help people live in their dream homes and neighborhoods,” explained Randy J. Brosseau, Area President, K. Hovnanian Homes and recent addition to the Palisades Medical Center Foundation’s Board of Governors. “Almost every family we work with wants quality healthcare nearby andwe are pleased to support Palisades MedicalCenter as it is an integral part of this community.”

K. Hovnanian has been quite involved in the

growth of our river’s edge communities. Their latest development is the Four Seasons atImperial Walk — an adult community located one-quarter mile south of the Medical Center.“Palisades Medical Center brings a lot to thisarea,” said Mr. Brosseau, a resident of theJacob’s Ferry community. “We look forward to its growth as neighborhoods grow alongside the Medical Center.”

■ Palisades Medical Center received the ranking of #1 hospital in HudsonCounty for the treatment of patients with Congestive Heart Failure in the2006 New Jersey Hospital Performance Report issued by New Jersey’sDepartment of Health and Senior Services. This ranking is based on the percentage of eligible patients who received correct treatments and care in order to fully recover from their medical problem. The report scoresCongestive Heart Failure, Heart Attack and Pneumonia because they areamong the most common reasons for hospital admissions throughout theUnited States. Palisades Medical Center’s official scores ranked among thebest in Hudson County in all three categories. The complete report can beviewed at www.state.nj.us/health/hpr.

suffer from the pain and bleeding of this benign tumor because they fear traditionaltreatment options — typically hysterectomies. John S. Richmond, MD, a board certified Vascular/Interventional Radiologist, has recently joined the medical staff,bringing his extensive experience and clinical success with Uterine FibroidEmbolization (UFE). This procedure shrinks the fibroids, often eliminating theneed for surgical removal. Recovery time is short and women are back to theirnormal routine in a few days.

■ Five local clergy members will be the first students in Palisades Medical Center’sClinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. This 20-week course teaches

leaders of various religions to minister to a spiritually diverse population — and in-turn, provide training forhealthcare staff on cultural issues in end of life care, and initial spiritual assessments. Students in this first class represent four different Spanish-speaking countries,as well as different religions — bringing a tremendous diversity to the program. At the completion of training, participants will be certified as professional hospital chaplains.

Religious volunteers may also participate in CPE training to become clinicallytrained religious volunteers who are competent at working with persons fromdiverse religious and spiritual beliefs.

■ A new Wound & Limb Healing Institute, scheduled to open March 2007, will provide the most sophisticated and therapeutic approach to healing wounds.Because all wounds are not the same, the Wound & Limb Healing Institute willfeature a multidisciplinary team that will enable limb preservation, decrease deformity and improve function for patients. Once the wound is healed, the center will work towards preventing its recurrence. The team will provide patientsaccess to surgeons specializing in Foot and Ankle, Orthopaedic, Plastic, andVascular Surgery; as well as physicians expert in the treatment of diabetes, infectious disease and physical medicine. Patients will also come in contact with Hyperbaric Medicine treatment options, orthotists and prostestists, rehabilitation and counseling.

■ Three new members have joined the Palisades Medical Center FoundationBoard of Governors. Randy J. Brosseau, Area President of K. Hovnanian Homes, will share his vast expertise in community development. Theresa de León,Vice President/Senior Relationship Manager at PNC Wealth Management, bringsa keen financial perspective. Thomas M. Eastwick, President of EastwickColleges/HoHoKus Schools, Inc. specializes in healthcare career training and provides insight to future healthcare workforce issues.

More than 300 business leaders, public officials and local residents came together on November 18 to honor TD Banknorth and Arthur E. Imperatore for their philanthropicsupport of the Palisades Medical Center Foundation. The 2006 Autumn Ball, which was held at the GlenpointeMarriott in Teaneck, NJ, featured a New York theme and includedstreet performers, foods from New York’s finest neighborhoodsand a Coney Island-style photo booth to make attendees feellike they were truly in ‘The Big Apple.’

Donna M. Uher and Arthur E. Imperatore co-chaired theAutumn Ball Committee, and were surprised to receive the honor of having the Legacy Society named after Mr. Imperatore in recognition of his $2 million bequest.

TD Banknorth was honored with Palisades Medical Center’s2006 Star Stream Award for its loyal support and its outstandingcommitment to meeting the needs of local residents throughoutNorth Hudson and Southern Bergen Counties.

The winners of the Auxiliary Raffle were: 1st Prize — Christos Diktas, Esq won a weekend

for two in New York City ($6,500 value);

2nd Prize —Ed Fleckenstein, Esq won a Tiffany’s Gift Certificate ($2,500 value),

3rd Prize — Aaron Stein, MD won an exciting night out for two in New York City ($1,000 value).

TREE OF LIFE Provides a Way to Honor From 2002-2005, George and John Ananvisited their mother everyday while shewas a resident at the Harborage. In fact,the only day they did not get to visit herwas when a blizzard dumped more thantwo feet of snow throughout our area.

The Anan brothers fondly recall memories of enjoying lunch and dinner inthe Harborage Dinning Room with theirmother. They also acknowledge that theHarborage staff and the medical team atPalisades always did everything they could to care for their mother’s needs.

That’s why George and John did not hesitate for a minute when they were

given the opportunity to honor their mother on the Harborage Tree of Life. “It was our way of making a donation and honoring Mom at the same time,” said George.

Today, George and John continue to visit the Harborage on a weekly basis to attend prayer services and spend time with the staff and residents who have become their close friends.

“We always felt extremely blessed that Mom was receiving the highest quality care possible,” said John. “The Harborage is like a second home to us.”
