After serving as the Pre-K3 Aide, Mrs. Stout became our Registrar/Admissions Officer. She also became an intricate part of our Marketing Committee. We wish her well in her new position. Teacher contracts will be delivered on May 16 th . After that, we will know better about who will be returning to serve as teachers and staff to our families. Mrs. Courtney Spinelli, our First Grade Teacher, will be a stay-at-home mom next year as she spends time with her little one. She has been a wonderful First Grade teacher. Field Day 2016 Field Day will be held on Thursday, May 26th. Coach Whittaker and Coach Kolman have planned a fun day, with teamwork and cooperation being the themes of the day. The students will go through 5 game stations and 1 break station. This is a No-Uniform-Day and students MUST wear closed-toed, athletic shoes. (NO CROCS, SANDALS, OR CLEATS!) Here is where we need your help! We are in need of Parent Volunteers to help run the Break Station for the students. If you are able to assist with this, please contact Mrs. Kolman at [email protected]. Volunteers are needed from 8:15 – 12:30. We will have two sessions – 8:15-10:30 and 10:30-12:30. Homeroom parents will contact you with other Field Day needs. Thank you.

Happy Birthday, Rome!

On April 21st, the Latin I class enjoyed a Festum Latinum to celebrate the 2,769th (MMDCCLXIX) birthday of Rome. The students dressed in togas and stolas (dresses) similar to those worn by Romans, decorated their personal mappa (napkin) to represent the Roman custom of taking leftovers home in their napkins, and performed short skits based on Greek myths. Prizes were given for the three best costumes and napkins. The parents sent all sorts of great appetizers, desserts and sparkling grape juice (a great hit with the students) and we ate pizza to celebrate modern Rome. We also celebrated a great year with lots of award winners at the Regional Latin Forum and great scores on the National Latin Exam! A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Copenhaver who helped us organize, judge and clean up. Multas gratias tibi agimus! Thanks also to all the parents of the Latin I students who provided support and encouragement throughout the whole year, and to all the 8th Grade students whose hard work and dedication made this an annus mirabilis!

TCS Alums Receive

Girls Scout Highest Award Last Saturday, April 30th, three TCS alums received the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the highest award available to Girls Scouts, equivalent to the Eagle Scout rank. The Gold Award is awarded to an individual who successfully completes a project that is measurable and sustainable, impacts the community outside of Girl Scouts, and has a global piece. Ashley Campbell, Sarah Fields and Cristina Williams were presented with the Award in a ceremony Saturday afternoon. Ashley (Class of 2015) received her Girl Scout Gold Award, for her project, “Hanging on the Suwannee River.” She partnered with the Florida State Parks System to install hammock camping sites along the Suwannee River. She hopes that her project will raise awareness for all that the park systems have to offer and hopes that one day her campsites will help raise funds for the park system as well. Sarah’s (Class of 2012) project was to re-landscape an area of the Lafayette Park Trail and clean up two plaques from the Friends of Our Parks Foundation. She worked with the City of Tallahassee Parks and installed beautiful perennial plants that grow all year round in both sun and shade. This project will be enjoyed by all who use the trail and be a part of keeping Tallahassee beautiful that makes our city such a great place to live. Cristina’s (Class of 2015) project was our very own Healthy Snack Cart here at TCS. In conjunction with Nurse Greif and the Administration, Cristina designed a Snack Cart for fifth graders and middle schoolers to purchase healthy snacks to supplement their lunches. She worked with other students to help manage and work the Cart. This project has evolved to also sell school supplies the students may need. She is continuing to work with school staff and students to carry on and upgrade the Snack Cart in the coming years. Our Trinity Catholic School family is proud of these three young ladies as they excel in their Girl Scout journey and continue to represent our school in such a wonderful way! Congratulations on earning your Gold Awards ladies!

On Friday – May 6th at 8:30 a.m., the Middle School celebrated the 8th Grade Spanish Mass. The Spanish Fiesta was also held in the Parish Hall on May 6th. Our Trinity 8th Graders enrolled in Spanish classes participated in the Fiesta. The Spanish Mass and Fiesta are annual Eighth Grade projects to say “Hasta la vista” to our school. May the Lord bless our Eighth Graders!

Middle SchoolAcademic Camp Offerings

COOKING CAMP FOR RISING 6TH-8TH GRADERS We will be using the Parish Hall’s kitchen to learn the basics around the kitchen and learn some recipes that the students can use at home! Each student will leave the camp knowing how to: navigate a kitchen and make basic breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes. Students will keep the recipes we used during camp in personalized folders. Students will also eat what we cook on a daily basis at the end of the session or have the option of taking it home in a to-go box. Examples of items we will learn how to make (all from scratch of course): pasta sauces, salad dressings, aolis, quiches, etc. To inquire more about this camp, please contact Dr. A at [email protected] SCIENCE CAMP FOR RISING 6TH-8TH GRADERS Let’s get our hands dirty! This camp is for those curious and adventurous students. We will have an entirely lab-based summer camp. We will split the ten days of camp between Earth Science, Life Science, Chemistry and Physics labs. Students will have the opportunity to work individually and also in groups to problem solve and understand how things work. Labs will include (but are not limited to): building a solar oven, creating a Rube Goldberg machine, studying the plant life cycle by creating our own mini-garden, invertebrate capture/analysis and working with microscopes to study our own prepared slides! To inquire more about this camp, please contact Dr. A at [email protected] SCIENCE FAIR CAMP FOR RISING 7TH GRADERS AND 8TH GRADERS WITH CONTINUATION PROJECTS Science Fair is a challenging time for any student. This camp is designed to lessen the burden on the parents and provide a more step-by-step approach for the students. At the end of the camp, I expect each student to have completed (at minimum) the Purpose, Hypothesis, Procedure, Materials, Independent, Dependent and Extraneous variables, framework for data collection, and Research Plan. These items will be typed, printed, placed in personalized folders and also saved on individual flash drives. Students will have all the instructions ready to start the procedure at home. To inquire more about this camp, please contact Dr. A at [email protected] “BIG HISTORY” FOR RISING 6TH -8TH GRADE Journey through 13.8 billion years of history through interactive videos, articles, inquiry, and discussion to explore the story of everything - from the beginning of the universe and the formation of the Earth, to the origins of life, early human development, the modern era, and into the future! Students will be challenged to think critically and broadly, discover connections between multiple disciplines, and test claims through investigation and evidence. The goal of Big History is to help students develop critical thinking skills and a more complete, interconnected understanding of history. Join me on the journey! To inquire more about this camp, please contact Mr. Marchand at [email protected] BRIDGE DESIGN CAMP FOR RISING 6TH-8TH GRADERS Have you ever wondered what it takes to make the world’s largest building or the tallest bridge in the world? What makes a building stable? Come get your creative juices flowing by designing and building your own bridge from Balsa wood, glue, and fishing line. We’ll test out your design to see how much weight it can hold (last year, the winning bridge weighed about a pound and held 35+ pounds without breaking)! Then, test your design skills on a virtual simulator, adjusting materials, lengths, angles and joints to see whether or not a dump truck could safely make it to the other side. Join us for what’s sure to be an exciting time! NOTE: Students will be using X-acto knives to build bridges from Balsa wood. A separate waiver will be sent to parents of all registrants. To inquire more about this camp, please contact Mrs. Toth at [email protected] BEGINNING SEWING This summer, learn a skill that will stay with you for life. In Trinity’s beginning sewing camp, students will become familiar with the universal knobs and levers of basic sewing machines. Students will learn how to thread and maintain a sewing machine, along with learning the basic stitches. Through their learning, students will construct various projects throughout the two-week camp. Last year, students created pillowcases, hats, purses, and stuffed animals. This year’s projects will be similar, but have not been finalized. To inquire more about this camp, please contact Mrs. Herzog at [email protected] ADVANCED SEWING This class is designed for students who already know how to use a sewing machine and who, preferably, have already taken a beginning sewing class. This camp will have two focuses: quilting and clothing. During this two-week course, students will learn how to assemble a quilt, how to read a sewing pattern, and how to create basic clothing. To inquire more about this camp, please contact Mrs. Herzog at [email protected] CODING Learn how to code this summer! Many sites teach blockly code, and we will start there, but once the logic from coding is understood and starting to develop, we will then dive farther into straight code. In this two-week camp, we will learn the code needed to create a basic website using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and a bit of CSS and JavaScript. Coding is a language anybody can pick up quickly, with a little practice! To inquire more about this camp, please contact Mrs. Herzog at [email protected]

MEDIA CENTER NEWS

Any questions contact Mrs. Latt

Any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Lattner at [email protected].

The end of school is around the corner. We need to remind our students how important it is to take care of library books and return them in a timely manner. Here are some important dates to remember: 8th Grade’s books are due back by May 6th; all other grade’s books are due May 13th. There will be no more check out for anyone starting May 9th. If your child has lost a library book, the accounts need to be settled before the end of school.

TCS students learned all about the Mystery Genre with a true-to-form “Who Dun It.” Our “detectives” had to figure out the culprit from a given crime scene, suspects, and alibis. They worked together and used those critical thinking skills to nab the criminal which was Hop on Pop.

K4J

On Friday, April 30th, we introduced the next K4J virtue to our students….CAREFUL SPEECH! This is one of the most difficult virtues to master. Yet, scripture is very clear about warning us that we should not think ill of others and must use careful speech. The Catholic Church teaches that we have to be especially careful to guard our speech and only speak nicely of others. This month our students will learn to stop tattling, making fun of others, and using other forms of negative speech. Each time a student uses Careful Speech this month, it will be like giving a flower to Mary! Our Holy Hero for the month is St. Philip Neri. He is known as the Joyful Saint, and he knew how important careful speech was. Read about why St. Philip Neri knew so much about Careful Speech from the Holy Card that your child brought home. Ask your child about the K4J skit that he/she saw on Friday of last week that was performed by our K4J Captains. How did the K4J Captains teach us about Careful Speech? When we think good thoughts, it’s easy to say the right words! Let’s all practice Careful Speech this month by remembering the posters in our classrooms that say: T – Is it True?

H – Is it Helpful? I – Is it Inspiring? N – Is it Necessary? K – Is it Kind? We’d like to honor the following students who received special K4J recognition in April by exhibiting the virtue of Joyful Obedience. Middle School Students: Bellamy Atwood, Xander Balog, Catie Bowersox, Elizabeth Brooks, Jack Brooks, DJ Campbell, Max Cannard, Rachel Christian, Logan Chenicek, Presley Clary, Frances Cowles, Gus Dockstader, Brooke Farr, Ashley Fink, Saige Gaston, Anne Katherine Griffin, Jake Hazen, Celeste Kadzis, Olivia Kane, Sean Kaven, Macy Kelley, Caroline Kynoch, Neeky Laguerre, Jordan Ledford, Cecilia Malley, Ellie Mangan, Dani Miller, Bennett Mitchell, Elise Mitchell, Jake Moore, Shae Murphy, Michael Murray, Michiko Nishimoto-Rivera, Tanner Patronis, Odaliz Quezada, Stephanie Ribich, Layne Schulte, Abbigail Sproul, Abi Stout, Madelyn Stout, Marco Torres-Lagos, Olivia Vigliotti, Bobby Williams, Charli Rose Yoakam, Mattie Zeigler.
